Job Title: Streets Maintenance Technician Department: Public Works Reports to: Streets Manager FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive Type: Safety Sensitive Effective Date: 05/01/2022 Job Summary: Performs varied tasks in the maintenance and repair of streets. Work involve repairing alleys, curbs and gutters, storm drain systems, and other public facilities. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Essential Job Functions: Note: This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The list of essential functions below does not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent in this position. a. May assist in clean, repair and paint curb markings in the downtown area b. Preforms set up traffic hardware construction of curbs and sidewalks. c. Trims branches on city's right-of-way and remove fallen trees and large debris from roadway as necessary. d. Assists in an accident or a heavy storm and clean storm inlets. e. Preforms repairs of pot holes in streets and alleys. f. Performs as a flagman in construction zones as required. g. Maintaining vehicles, materials, and traffic control hardware. h. Assisting in the setup of traffic control for special events. i. Perform other work and reports as assigned. Conditions of Employment: a. Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration. b. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense. c. Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record. d. Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred. Required Education: High school diploma, GED or equivalency. Education Preference: Community college, vocational, business, technical, or correspondence school certifications are likely sources. Educational Substitute: Not Applicable Required Work Experience: No experience required. Experience Preference: One (1) year of experience performing tasks closely related to job description. Supervisory Experience Requirement: Not Applicable Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities a. Requires a working knowledge of safety hazards as they apply to the type of work being performed. b. Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information. c. Requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. d. Normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. e. Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. f. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and supervisor(s). Equipment Materials: General office and safety equipment/materials to include but not limited to the following: · Hand Tools/Power Tools · Two-Way Radio · Hopper/Shovel · Ear Plugs · Safety Equipment and Protective Clothing · City Vehicle Work Conditions: Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this class, the incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; use math and mathematical reasoning; perform detailed work, multiple deadlines and concurrent tasks; work with constant interruptions; and interact with staff and the public.
