ABOUT THE POSITION: We seek enthusiastic and energetic candidates to serve as Residential Assistants (RA's) in our Summer at HPA Academies (June 21-July 23, 2023). These positions are primarily evenings and weekends, requiring living on-campus housing in dormitories and leading student activities off campus. Working under the direction of the Director of Residential Life for Summer at HPA Academies, the Resident Assistant assumes all the responsibilities for the supervision, care, counseling of all boarding students, and intramural sports. All job duties at the school are expected to be performed in support of HPA's mission, in pursuit of our vision, and grounded in our core values of Integrity, Respect, Pursuit of Excellence, and Wonder. Responsibilities include: Welcoming students/families as they begin the program, providing a safe and welcoming environment. Setting up dorm rooms and halls (e.g., dorm decorations, name tags for doors, etc.); inventory rooms for dorm damage at the start and end of the program. Planning the activity schedule with Residential Life Director and other RA's. Be prepared to lead team-building activities. Instruct both large and small groups. Create, implement, and supervise evening and weekend social activities. Support the planning of special celebrations. Assuming the role of big brother/ big sister to the students and providing emotional support, counseling, and guidance as needed. Serving as advisor and mentor to advisees. Writing end-of-session reports detailing the social progress of assigned advisees. Supporting the planning, implementation, and supervision of students for afternoon intramural activities Supervising and interacting with students during evening activities. Assisting with any summer homework assignments in the dorm each evening. Interacting with students to and from sports to evening dinner and during evening activities. Taking attendance during breakfast and dinner. Escorting and supervising students on weekend excursions and any free-time activities. Monitoring students during weekly evening town visits. Supporting students with money management and staying within budget, supporting students in making useful purchases during their stay Ensuring the safety of students, including enforcing the use of crosswalks at lights. Meeting with the nursing staff regularly to discuss and monitor student health concerns, and administering first aid as needed. Reporting rule infractions incurred by the students to the Residential Life Director. Attending weekly meetings to discuss student concerns and upcoming activities with the Residential Life Director. Other duties as assigned in support of the student programming. The typical workday hours are 2:30 PM to 8:00 AM with one day off per week. Weekend hours begin at 2:30 PM on Friday and end at 8:00 AM on Monday. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Be at least 18 years of age Some post-secondary education Some familiarity with Hawaii or Hawaii Island PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prior experience working with students Experience living and/or working in a residential educational environment Some familiarity with Hawaii or Hawaii Island Be willing and able to acquire Lifeguard, First Aid/CPR certification before the start of the program REPORTS TO: Summer at HPA Academies Director of Residential Life JOB STATUS: Non-Exempt APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: Please apply using our online application.
