Job Description STEAM Center Day Camp Counselor SUPERVISOR: STEAM Center Manager DEPARTMENT: Program FLSA STATUS: Part-Time/Seasonal LAST UPDATED: 2/3/2023 LEADERSHIP SUMMARY The STEAM Center Day Camp Counselor will infuse and model the Girl Scout Law into their everyday work to fulfill the mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. POSITION SUMMARY The STEAM Center Day Camp Counselor will work directly with girls providing fun, safe, and interactive programming. Camp Counselors make Girl Scout Day Camp a positive experience for girls. The Day Camp Counselor is responsible for teaching, coordinating, carrying out activities, and guiding campers in their STEAM and outdoor experience. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES Responsible for supervising a small group of campers each day, including leading activities, clean-up, mealtimes, rest hours, dismissal, etc. Provides opportunities for the group so that the success of each experience during day camp. Contributes to and creates a physically, emotionally, and psychologically safe environment for campers. Maintains a positive attitude and professionalism with campers, parents, volunteers, and staff. Set a good example for campers and others, including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing, and clean-up. Leads songs and games as needed Lead group discussions end of activity sessions Complete daily equipment/supply checks Maintain all equipment Attends camp staff training Participates in daily reflections Follows camp rules and policies Perform other duties as assigned by the STEAM Center Manager. KNOWLEDGE AND CREDENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Required 18 years of age or older Experience working with youth Clear a criminal background check Knowledge of Girl Scout Leadership Experience preferred First Aid and CPR certification preferred STEAM content knowledge is a plus ABILITY AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS Membership with GSUSA and subscribing to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement. Demonstrate ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and work in a team and independently. Strong human relations skills and ability to work well with others of diverse cultures Desire and ability to work with girls and adults in a day camp setting Ability to exercise good judgment Excellent written and oral communication skills Solution-driven with the ability to effectively problem solve Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds Ability to bend, stoop, and sit for extended periods Ability to periodically work outdoors in moderate temperatures Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
