The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature. We offer to the public 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, 47 miles of rivers and streams, and 6 nature and cultural centers. We have 6 million visitors each year. The District's mission is, "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure and recreation of it's citizens. Job Purpose This position is to provide a safe and high quality recreational experience at District boat rental facilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Boat rental operations including explaining rules, handing out equipment, attending to persons renting boats, monitoring lake safety, and checking in private boaters. Keep neat and accurate records including incident/injury reports, equipment damage reports, facility logs, time sheets, etc. Assist with preserve/grounds maintenance including de-littering, latrine cleaning and upkeep of amenities. Provide District information to the public regarding the preserves, facility operations, recreational opportunities, rules and regulations. Perform other duties as required. Education and Experience Required Additional Information: Must be 16 years of age or older by the first day of employment. Will need to bring own lunch for working in the field. Safety boots required, reimbursement available. Hours: Hours vary, will include weekends and holidays. Weekends Only (May through Memorial Day weekend), ); Up to 40 hours per week (Memorial Day through Labor Day), 8 hour shifts from 10:30AM to 6:30PM, Schedule will include working some weekends and Summer holidays (includes Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day). Starting Pay: $13.50 an hour Preferred Experience: Facility Operations; Customer Service; Recreational Programming; Special training or other license, certification, etc.: CPR/AED/First Aid Skills In: Dealing effectively with the public; clear and concise communication, interpreting rules and regulations; keeping neat and accurate records; knowledge of District preserves, ordinances, policies, and safety procedures; time management.
