Camp Settoga Job Title: Athletics Director Classification: Exempt (Seasonal) Reports to: Assistant Director of Camps, who oversees camp programming Position Purpose: To further the mission of the camp through the development and delivery of field and court sports activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers' ages and abilities. Assist in the management of the physical operation of the field and court equipment and facilities. Oversee the Sports Coaches and help them develop as leaders and professionals. Essential Job Functions: Develop and deliver a field and court sports program that is appropriate for the age and ability of the campers Work with the sports coaches to write lesson plans that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers. Work with the sports coaches to develop their coaching skills by observing them in action and providing feedback in order to improve their coaching skills. Evaluate the skills and abilities of the campers to ensure they are progressing throughout the summer. Deliver progressive field and court sports activities. You will be responsible for overseeing activities such as baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, flag football, pickleball, etc. Ensure that the non-sports staff is appropriately involved in field and court sports activities. Evaluate the success of the field and court sports program. Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures. Assist in the implementation of sports staff training for field and court sports. Train other staff in their responsibilities when at field and court sports. Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures. Oversee the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in the field and court sports program area Maintain the field and court sports equipment including balls, bats, nets etc. Ensure the security of the field and court sports equipment when not in use. Conduct a daily check of the area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair. Work to direct sports coaches to understanding how to store and clean equipment to eventually delegate who is in charge of each category of equipment. Ex. basketballs, pickleball equipment, baseballs and bats, soccer balls, etc. Ensure that the field and court sports equipment are cleaned on a set schedule with the assistance of the sports coaches. Other Job Duties: Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned. Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions. Assist in the planning of any special events. Maintain equipment lists Support all camp activities Bus responsibilities: lead bus counselor or bus counselor to help facilitate safety on the bus Relationships: Sports coaches work alongside other coaches to facilitate periods such as baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, etc. Sports coaches will report to and be trained by the Athletic Director. Equipment used: Identify where/how equipment is stored and work to keep equipment clean and organized through the summer. Equipment could be sports supplies such as basketballs, pickleball equipment, baseballs and bats, soccer balls, etc. Qualifications : (Minimum qualifications and experience) Documented experience in field and court sports instruction or documented training and experience in the variety of sports the camp offers. Experience in team management or experience in leading a team, preferably in athletics. Current certification in First Aid and CPR. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in athletics, athletic training, elementary education, etc. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Training and experience in teaching field and court sports to children. Experience in setting up, securing, and maintaining field and court sports equipment. Knowledge of sports medicine or athletic training is desirable. Familiarity with instruction in and equipment necessary for including but not limited to baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, flag football, and pickleball. Physical Aspects of the Position: Ability to communicate effectively with and lead groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff. Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. Ability to observe staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate management techniques. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring First Aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers. Some physical requirements of a field and court sports position involve endurance including standing, running, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate equipment and demonstrate sports activities. Requires range of hearing and eyesight necessary to maintain a safe athletics environment and carefully observe field and court sports instruction.
