Exempt/Non-exempt Non-exempt Status Full Time The City of Saint Charles Public Works Department is currently recruiting for the position of Equipment Operator Lead. The purpose of this position is to lead and train personnel in skilled construction work necessary for the maintenance and repair of utility infrastructure including but not limited to storm and sanitary sewer inspections, repairs, and replacements, sewer and structure cleaning, trench excavation, New Town vacuum system operations, concrete and asphalt paving, traffic control, utility coordination, safety inspections, equipment training, and snow and ice removal operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Properly inspect, maintain, load and unload, drive and/or operate construction vehicles and equipment including hand and power tools, excavators, motor graders, backhoes, front-end loaders, high lifts, light tractors, dump trucks, vactor trucks, camera trucks and equipment, snowplows, jack hammers, mixers, spreaders, paving machines and other equipment used during utility maintenance/repair activities and snow removal operations. Train and develop other employees on utility maintenance/repair activities including the safe and efficient use all construction equipment, vehicles, various types of hand and power tools. Knowledgeable on trench excavation, confined space training, storm and sanitary sewer system operations, sewer maintenance and repair, pavement restoration, appropriate safety standards, procedures and equipment. Assists in the inspection of sewers to identify damages, determine cause of problems and initatiate corrective actions. Familiar with City codes and criteria including Metropolitan Sewer District standards for sewer construction and St. Louis County Department of Transportation standards for pavement construction. Organize, direct and occasionally perform duties of non-lead equipment operator utility maintenance activities. Establish goals and deadlines for a crew of utility maintenance equipment operators. Log and track service requests and work orders for a crew of utility maintenance equipment operators. Mandatory attendance and participation in: rotating on-call schedule, assigned overtime, civil emergencies, severe weather events including flooding and snow removal operations, sewer backups, special events, and call-outs. Coordinate with utility companies to identify utility conflicts prior to construction. Respond to public inquiries and complaints. Communicate clearly to effectively explain issues to the public, management and other employees. Display a positive work ethic, attitude and respect towards all employees. Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions High School diploma or equivalent Minimum 5 years of experience related to utility maintenance including construction and operation of related equipment and tools, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possession and maintenance of a valid Missouri Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brakes and tanker endorsements.
