Grants Accountant Tsaile Campus Duty Schedule: Typically Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm however weekend and evening work may be required. Summary/Objective of Position: Under general supervision of the Vice President of Administration & Finance; Performs accounting and administrative functions related specifically to grants and contracts ensuring compliance with granting agency regulations and laws. Post-award administration of federal grants and contracts; Financial reporting and financial record maintenance; Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports. Cash management of all grants and contracts including preparation of reimbursement requests and draw-downs of funds. Shared responsibilities for applying student payments, including uploads from third party payment plans, online payments, or outside scholarships. Ensure the grant funds are expended in compliance with grantor agency regulations; responsible for budgetary control of grants and contracts. Interact with outside agencies, internal and independent auditors and financial monitors, services as Finance Office contact for grant and contract and financial aid managers. Prepare journal entries, cash receipt and disbursement entries for all grants and contract related transactions. Implement financial policies and procedures for grants and contracts to ensure compliance with funding agency guidelines. Assists in annual audit and annual budget development for grants and contracts. Assist with preparation of audit schedules, financial statements and statistical data related to the annual audit and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). Monitor applicable federal regulations for regulatory changes and updates to grants and contracts related transactions. Maintain current knowledge on changes in policies, procedures, and guidelines to answer work related questions or provide assistance to students, faculty, and the general public in a timely and courteous manner. Performs other job related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Minimum: Bachelor's Degree Preferred in business, accounting or finance; including business and accounting courses. 2-4 years of experience preferred plus knowledge of accounting system; Fund accounting and experience directly related to federal grants and contracts; Preferred: Master's Degree preferred in business, accounting or finance. Knowledge: Accounting Skills.Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Knowledge of institutional policies & procedures, and federal regulations.Must possess a high level of accuracy and strong attention to detail.Knowledge of financial aid programs and regulations. Skills: Demonstrate skills in customer service, collaboration, planning, prioritizing, and organization. Exemplary skills in independent decision-making and critical thinking. Experience in financial database systems. Abilities: Ability to analyze financial information, prepare financial reports and reconcile various accounts. Ability to communicate effectively with customers in a high pressure environment.Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and/or Saturdays when necessary. Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel: Normal office environment. Some travelling will be required. Other Requirement(s): Oral fluency in Navajo is desirable but not mandatory.Must have a valid state driver's license. Obtain defensive driving certificate to operate GSA/DC Vehicle.
