Organization: SOS Children's Villages USA (SOS USA) is the United States philanthropic affiliate of a worldwide Federation, SOS Children's Villages International. A public charity, SOS USA draws revenue from sponsors of children and villages, sustainers, major donors, foundations, and corporations, across direct mail, digital, and direct cultivation. The Opportunity: SOS USA is seeking a Director of Finance & Administration to play a critical role in strengthening the accounting and finance operations, managing the financial reporting and planning for management and the board, and managing and overseeing the accounting team, processes and platforms as it relates to financial management, investments, budgeting, and cash flow. The Director will serve as a member of the Executive Team. This position reports directly to the CEO. Key Responsibilities Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Accounting and Finance Operations Manage and oversee the daily accounting processes that include accounts payable, accounts receivable, restricted funding, grants management and reporting, payroll processing, cash management, transfers to SOS affiliates, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting. Work closely with the outsourced accounting team. Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, budgets, and actual expenditures. Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of the financial status. Lead the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and KPIs and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate. Prepare monthly financial statements that include efficient processes through automation of reports. The financial reports should include the Statement of Activities by Program, Budget vs Actual, and Statement of Financial Position; present to management and the board. Review Budget vs Actual Reports with managers on a monthly basis. Manage organizational cash flow forecasting and work closely with management on cash inflows, outflows and upcoming needs. Assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations by working in partnership with leadership and key program staff. Work with independent auditors to conduct the annual audit and tax return preparation. Work with the audit firm to ensure compliance, accuracy and timely filing of all tax returns. Ensure filing of all state and federal compliance and regulatory requirements; work with third party agency that manages SOS's filings. Ensure that the organization has proper and adequate insurance policies such as D&O, Comprehensive General Liability, Media etc. Manage the implementation of internal controls, policies, and procedures as it related to financial management. Provide education and training for staff as needed. Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines. Work with the Finance Committee, Board and Investment Advisors on any changes to the investment policy. Provide recommendations as needed. Meet quarterly/as needed with the Investment Advisors to review portfolio results. Support the Finance and Audit Committees of the Board. Oversee all organization activities and operations and ensure that they are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations. Support outsourced human resources consultants. Work and collaborate with outsourced IT consultant to support/troubleshoot internal IT issues and issues with equipment. Provide recommendations for upgrading technology infrastructure, scoping out the next level of information technology and financial systems that support the growth of specific programs and the organization overall. Oversee the processing of payroll by our outside accounting consultants to ensure accuracy and: state and federal compliance on W-2's, FUTA, SUTA and other taxes, as applicable. Relationship Management and Coordination In regard to SOS Children's Villages International (CVI), SOS Program Supporting Agencies (PSAs; i.e., fundraising members of the SOS Children's Villages federation), SOS USA domestic affiliates, and external relations Manage finance and oversee IT relations with CVI. Manage finance relations with international and domestic affiliates. Support grant budgeting and reporting. Other Duties as Assigned Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, CPA, MBA or similar advanced degree highly preferred. Must have at least 10 years of experience in the field, including previous nonprofit management-level experience and leading and managing a team. Knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including donor restricted funding. Experience in financial planning, budgeting, and analysis. Experience with a sponsorship model, USG funding, and/or international development preferred. Must be able to articulate complex accounting matters to all levels of staff throughout the organization. Expertise in working with grants and contracts preferred. Experience in QBO preferred. Experience overseeing compliance with financial management and reporting. Expertise in effectively planning and managing the full range of operational infrastructure and administrative needs and services of an organization, including IT. Excellent communication, facilitation, and negotiation skills. Demonstrates integrity, strives for excellence in work and has experience leading and inspiring others to new levels of effectiveness and operational impact. Excellent organizational, time and project management skills.
