INDY WEST CHRISTIAN PRESCHOOL Position: Cook The preschool cook will prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack to our infants through preschool age classrooms, as well as lunch for 1 elementary school lunch period. Attention to detail and time management are critical as meals must be served on a set schedule. Cleanliness and sanitizing are of utmost importance for the safety of the children. The meals and snacks are simple and kid friendly. Hours are 7am-3pm Monday through Friday. Job Type: Full-Time Nonexempt Experience level: 2 years of experience within a school or preschool kitchen environment Shift: Day shift: 7 AM to 3 PM Weekly day range: Monday to Friday Deliver quality food service and perform cost control, product management, and operational compliance. Prepare and deliver breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack. Maintain kitchen and related equipment safely and hygienically: Order food and supplies Keep the Director informed of any necessary information regarding the care and safety of children. Complete timely and accurate documentation according to licensing or regulation requirements. Assist and accept responsibility in other daily center duties that might be temporary in the event other personnel are not available. Attend and participate in staff meetings. KNOWLEDGE Familiarity with proper conditions and food storage· Ability to plan nutritious menus and prepare enough food for preschool/school population: Ability to understand and follow special food plans for food-allergic children or children with other food service special needs. Ability to understand food cross-contamination needs of food allergic children and ability to implement methods of food cross-contamination avoidance. Basic math skills required for measuring and calculating serving portions. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Ability to respond appropriately in an emergency. Good organizational skills. Serve Safe Certification. COMMUNICATION Must have good verbal, listening, and written communication skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is primarily performed in the school environment. Indy West Christian Preschool is dynamic with a high level of activity. Must be able to lift 40 pounds and stand up to 95% of the day. Assume postures in low level positions that best allow physical and visual contact with children. Must be able to sustain a high level of energy. Must be able to bend to perform various tasks numerous times throughout the day. Must have the ability to move from a seated position to a standing position promptly to respond to emergency situations. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor the environment and children's wellbeing. Must be flexible and be able to respond quickly and appropriately to changing situations. Employee will be faced with a variety of issues on a daily basis and will be engaged in multiple tasks and must respond quickly and appropriately to the frequently changing needs of children.
