Rogue Valley Times, a news organization committed to "digital first, then print" coverage of Medford, Oregon and the surrounding area , is seeking an experienced reporter to cover the Children, Families and Schools beat, a fresh take on the traditional education beat. With seven school districts and two colleges in our circulation area, it is easy for the education reporter to get bogged down in school board meetings. We want to free our schools reporter to venture beyond meetings and follow stories that matter to parents and families. When big issues are happening at district headquarters, you'll cover those meetings to let people know what education officials are doing. But you'll also be talking to parents, students and others outside the official realm to follow stories that are relevant to their daily lives. Candidates should be social-media savvy for news and audience engagement. Reporters need to be self-directed and able to juggle daily stories and enterprise work. Rogue Valley Times is a new publication created by EO Media Group, an Oregon-based, family-owned company with deep roots in the media industry. To learn more, go to www.eomediagroup.com . Medford - population 87,000 - is a fast growing city in southern Oregon, serving as a regional shopping and medical center on the I-5 corridor. The area boasts exceptional entertainment, wineries and outdoor activities. While The Times is printed three times per week, content will be published daily online , to meet the constant demand for local , credible news. Reporting experience, a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, or a combination of experience and education is required. This is a 37.5-hour per week position.
