GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE The Plumber is responsible for the overall plumbing and preventive maintenance in office buildings and other industrial areas according to specifications and plumbing codes. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION Installs and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors Cut openings in walls and/or floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine Bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by hand Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass and lead, and nonmetals such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic Joins pipe by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and calks joints Reads pressure gauges to determine leaks Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, and water softeners Replace or repair leaky faucets, burst pipes, and clogged drains May weld holding fixtures to steel structural Regularly perform routine maintenance Other general maintenance and housekeeping duties as required Any and all other duties assigned by your Supervisor/Manager/Lead JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES EXPERIENCE: Three to five years' plumbing experience required. Experience in an industrial/commercial environment is preferred. Minimum of 2 years' experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures. SKILLS: Must have good communication skills, the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English Ability to read blueprints, building plans and schematics as required Must be able to read and comply with work orders concerning service, modification, or installation of equipment The ability to use a variety of power tools, hand tools, and meters safely ADDITIONAL: Hands-on ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Required to work independently and with limited supervision. Comply with all policies, safety guidelines, and procedures; follow all contract specifications and maintain compliance. Must be able to maintain regular and acceptable attendance, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures. Must have a government security clearance or ability to obtain upon hire. EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION HS Diploma or GED required; Associates or Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field desired. Valid Plumber's License Backflow/Cross-Connection Certification desired PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The work environment, while generally hazard free, may include some exposure to dust and varying temperatures. This position may require the individual to work both inside and outside, sometimes in inclement weather conditions. May require lifting up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Constant walking and standing for extended periods of time may be required. Reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, kneeling, and balancing may be needed. Significant hand and finger dexterity is required, along with the ability to work in tight/confined spaces. In addition, the use of ladders may be required, which includes the ability to use/carry ladders, lift, and climb up to 30ft. in length. WORK HOUR REQUIREMENT This position is full time (40 hours per week) and may include some shift work including Saturdays and Sundays. Ability to work overtime as needed.
