ASSOCIATE DEAN OF COLLEGE COUNSELING Job Title: Associate Dean of College Counseling Office / Department: Academics / College Counseling Reports to: Dean of College Counseling Job Summary The Associate Dean of College Counseling partners with the Dean of College Counseling to develop programs and services that help guide students through the college application process. Personal Characteristics The Associate Dean of College Counseling is a person of deep and mature Christian faith who values and understands the liberal arts within a high school context and can effectively communicate the mission of the school to internal and external audiences and networks. The Associate Dean of College Counseling will exhibit integrity and honor, spiritual depth, possess management and administrative gifts, exhibit enthusiasm for the advancement of the school, understand the various constituencies of Pacifica, and communicate with warmth and understanding. Essential Duties & Responsibilities The Associate/Assistant Dean of College Counseling will: Will support the school's mission Be punctual and maintain good attendance Be a positive team player Manage a caseload of students, providing strategies, advice, support, and guidance to those students and their families throughout the application process and in making the best individualized choice for college. Meet with students individually and in groups to educate and empower them on how to navigate the college process, admissions trends, and individual college options. Assist students to identify resources for scholarships and financial aid for colleges and universities. Coordinate the calendar of all standardized testing for students, including scheduling test dates, registering students, administering the tests, and providing pre-and post-test counseling. Conduct events and educational outreach for both the student and parent communities. Develop and interpret extensive summary reports on students' progress on standardized testing for the school community. Ensure accurate permanent records of students' testing and academic work. Create and submit materials to colleges in support of college applicants. Coordinate the faculty writing of requested recommendations for students applying to college. Prepare transcripts for students. Write recommendations for students applying to college. Facilitate visits between students and college representatives at the school. Cultivate mutually beneficial working relationships with college admissions professionals and local area college counseling colleagues. Arrange and direct visits to relevant colleges and college fairs. Visit college campuses to stay abreast of university offerings and maintain familiarity with signature programs. Track trends in the admissions and college counseling fields. Pursue professional development opportunities. Attend conferences and professional meetings in order to remain current with industry trends. Participate in committee, department, and staff meetings as well as school-sponsored events that would benefit from your area of expertise. Be involved in the school community at large. Other Duties & Shared Responsibilities Embodies and promotes Pacifica's Core Beliefs and Approach to Teaching & Learning . Wholeheartedly enjoys working with teenagers, championing their education, and encouraging their faith and Christian commitments. Cultivates a vibrant culture of learning in and out of the classroom and contributes to a healthy professional working community. Serves as an Advisor to a cohort of students. Attends and participates in weekly Chapel and All-School Meeting as well as other school-day events/assemblies. Celebrates students by attending their co-curricular activities on occasion. Arrives on-time, is well-prepared, acts professionally, and seeks to add value in every facet of the job while working collaboratively with colleagues and students to advance Pacifica's mission. Maintains communication with parents and responds to messages within 24 hours. Holds self directly accountable to their direct report and to the departments they serve, and ultimately the Head of School. Attends and participates in Pacifica's annual overnight All-School Retreat as well as Admissions Open House Events, Back-to-School Night, and Commencement activities. Contributes to the supervision of a reasonable number of after-school activities as needed. Qualification Requirements A Bachelor's Degree and three to five years of relevant experience in the college counseling profession, preferably at an independent school or university admission office Extensive and current knowledge of the college application process, the college financial aid process, and the NCAA eligibility recruitment regulations Experience working with various technologies including Naviance, online application platforms, and college search tools Ability to partner with students and families to help guide them through the college search and application processes Willingness to travel to professional conferences and college campuses throughout the year Strong listening, writing, and presentation skills Desire to collaborate and work with a team Job Posted by ApplicantPro
