Volunteer Assignment Description - AmeriCorps VISTA Capacity Building Member Title: AmeriCorps VISTA Capacity Building Member Sponsoring Organization: St. Louis Area Foodbank Project Name: St. Louis Area Foodbank Project Period: 1 year from date of placement Main responsibilities include: Using county data, program criteria, and the strategic direction, work to identify and connect with organizations/community groups to run Foodbank Programs to increase food security through our 26-county bistate-territory. This includes, but is not limited to the School Market Program, Mobile Market Program, CSFP, SNAP, and Transitional Housing. Support the strategic capacity development of the Partner Relationships, Quality Assurance, and Service Insights teams on the creation of team specific tools to bolster processes around network support. Research and support development of an internal partner segmentation tool that assesses network capacity and identifies areas for growth among the SLAFB network. Create content and social media postings for Foodbank partners. Presenting information on various topics that will support partner growth. This includes, but is not limited to training opportunities, academic articles, informational videos, etc. The above list is not exhaustive; there will be times where you will be asked to help participate and potentially lead our other projects on an as needed basis. This can include areas outside of your immediate area of responsibility. These projects can come from the Director of Partner Services or other staff. Goal of the Project: The goal of the St. Louis Area Foodbank VISTA Program is to increase the number of meals the Foodbank provides to the community each year. During this term, we plan to distribute at least 41 million meals. To do this, the Capacity Building VISTA will research and implement programmatic best practices to create strong program foundations. This will allow the Foodbank to reach communities most in need through the delivery of nutritious food in a way that meets people where they spend their time instead of through traditional food pantries. By increasing access to food, we enable one in six families who face hunger throughout our 26-county territory to save precious dollars that they can then use on health care costs, utilities, unexpected costs such as repairs, etc. Objective of the Assignment : Support the strategic capacity development of the Partner Relationships, Quality Assurance, and Service Insights teams on the creation of team specific tools to bolster processes around network support. Member Activities: Review current capacity of SLAFB Partner Services tools. This includes, but not limited to, systems for completing departmental tasks, projects, and processes Research best capacity building techniques, identify weaknesses/challenges for capacity building and provide recommendations Support the teams through conducting recurring needs assessment, identifying key concepts and information to help strengthen their work within the network Objective of the Assignment: Using county data, program criteria, and the strategic plan, work to identify and connect with organizations/community groups to run Foodbank Programs to increase food security through our 26-county bistate-territory. This includes, but is not limited to the School Market Program, Mobile Market Program, CSFP, SNAP, and Transitional Housing. Member Activities: Work with Partners and Programs team to create a plan and prioritize the different programs that need support with capacity building. Use sub-county data from Feeding America's Map the Meal Gap study and the program criteria to identify target zip codes for programs. Conduct research on target zip codes for organization who would potentially want to work with the Foodbank. Creating spreadsheets with points of contacts and background information on organization. Contact potential partners to run programs. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting cold calls, sending emails, connecting with other partners for introductory emails. Providing information on the programs to the partners and facilitating opportunities for other mobile market site visits. Creating the connections to the Partners and Programs Coordinators who oversee the specific programs. Objective of the Assignment: Using Feeding America resources and Foodbank data, research and support development of an internal partner segmentation tool that assesses network capacity and categorizes partners based on similar attributes. This tool will help to identify areas for growth among the SLAFB network. Member Activities: Conduct research on other Foodbank segmentation tools. Identify best practices used among the Feeding America network to identify methods that work best for the Foodbank segmentation tool. Develop the Foodbank segmentation tool to be utilized by the Partner Services team to internally assess opportunities for growth among the partner network. Objective of the Assignment: Support the growth of partners by researching and sharing SLAFB network opportunities and content that will allow for partner capacity building. Working with Programs and Partner Services to identify material to be shared network wide. Member Activities: Understand the current capacity of the foodbank partners. Identify the needs and wants that will allow the partners to expand their operation and grow capacity. Collaborate with Partner Services and marketing so that these opportunities are visible to the partners through different outlets (i.e. Facebook, Agency Access, etc.) Potentially work with Partner Services to create templates for partner use.
