Job Description Job Title : Pharmacy Technician/Outpatient Department : Pharmacy Reports To : Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor Job Summary : Pharmacy Technicians/Outpatient assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, maintaining patient records and delivering high-quality customer service to CMC employees and patients. Pharmacy technicians/ outpatient work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist. Job Responsibilities include : - Procures and distributes medications per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols. - Receives shipments from vendors and restocks pharmacy and OTC areas with medications and supplies. - Assists the pharmacist in filling prescriptions. - Assists pharmacists in resolving insurance issues. - Rotates and manages stock before expiration date. - Generates reports and labels as required. - Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately; files documentation in appropriate locations. - Keeps pharmacy neat, clean, and well-organized; keeps pharmacy equipment clean. - Provides excellent customer service, e.g., answering phones and attending to cash register. - Delivers prescriptions to patient's bedside when requested. - Is flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above. - May provide support to the Inpatient pharmacy staff with medication distribution and restocking Requirements : Education - High School diploma/equivalent. Experience - 2-3 years pharmacy technician experience preferred, but not required. Must be at least 18 years old. Licensure - National certification (NHA/PTCB) or eligible preferred. Physical Requirements - Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job. = Essential functions Schedule: Monday thru Friday: 9am - 5pm, Outpatient Pharmacy: 11am to 5pm during college semesters, 1-5pm when college is on break, Inpatient pharmacy: 9-11 during college semesters, and 9-1pm when college is on break Cayuga Health System Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Cayuga Health System commits to treat all people with dignity so that everyone who comes to us is safe, cared for, and respected.
