Product Engineer

Description:
This position is responsible for developing creative solutions for customer fire protection challenges. The primary function is the design, development, and continual improvement of components and systems in the Viking product line. RESPONSIBILITIES: Communicate with customers to ensure design targets are understood and any changes in scope are evaluated throughout the project. Manage Product Engineering projects to scope, on time and within budget requirements. Lead product development projects using project management tools. Utilize engineering tools and technology to design product meeting customer requirements. Coordinate with Purchasing, Supplier Quality and Manufacturing Engineering counterparts during early phases of product development to achieve product designs capable of manufacturing. Create engineering drawings and specifications to ensure predictable assembly and performance to design intentions, utilizing GD&T and Viking engineering standard practices. Utilize CAD, 3D modeling and FEA to design and test samples and prototypes. Maintain working knowledge of laboratory approval standards, company manuals, and other test literature to ensure on-going compliance. Leads activity with approval laboratories to ensure timely completion of projects. Designs, adapts and develops internal test methods, procedures, and test equipment to simulate approval lab and external customer requirements. Participate in the development and maintenance of quality documentation, including DFMEAs, PFMEAs, and Control Plans. Correspond with cross-functional personnel throughout product development to obtain prototypes, approve component acceptance to design, and support manufacturing release to product design standards. Lead low risk engineering changes by facilitating product independently from design through production release. May require basic purchasing and supplier quality tasks to fast track to production. Analyze manufacturing data as required to benchmark for future products, to ensure continued performance to design intent, and assess product lines for opportunities for improvement. Ownership of product engineering change implementation from EC issue through closure. Operates machines and uses instruments to perform tests and measure parts. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. High level of analytical ability. Proven history of problem-solving skills required. 3-5 years experience in product design and development. Practical application of GD&T, datum dimensioning and tolerance stack-ups. Knowledge of manufacturing processes preferred, including CNC machining, Casting, Stamping and Automated Assembly. Demonstrated teamwork, project management, communication and leadership skills. Proficiency in SolidWorks (preferred), ProE, and Autocad. Understanding of basic FEA and experience analyzing results. Job Posted by ApplicantPro
