Job Title: Engineer Intern Department: Engineering Reports To: Infrastructure Renewal Engineer JOB SUMMARY The purpose of this internship is to learn about Greenville Water's engineering department and to develop skills in the area of new construction and water main replacement projects. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Coordinates and interacts with engineers, architects, developers and contractors regarding water service for residential, commercial and industrial development. Performs a variety of engineering design calculations such as: the design of water main layouts, hydraulic analysis calculations, structural design, gradient analysis, aqueduct system analysis, pipeline design calculations, stress analysis, and thrust restraint calculations. Reviews site plans and prepares water main layouts for new development for approval by others. Performs accurate calculations of flows and pressures in water mains. Assists with the administration of construction projects. Provides engineering support for construction work in progress, including field inspections, to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications and material standards. Interprets data compiled from physical tests in the field, such as soils reports, drainage calculations and surge analyses. Prepares, reviews and/or verifies reports which list quantities of materials installed. Writes engineering specifications, prepares preliminary engineering design plans and drafts reports for projects, structures, and facilities. Communicates project status and concerns to supervisor. Prepares drawings using AutoCAD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a senior enrolled in Clemson's Engineering program / seeking a bachelors degree in civil engineering. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license . To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.
