About the Thomas Jefferson Foundation The Thomas Jefferson Foundation has a twofold mission of preservation and education, and was incorporated in 1923 to preserve Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Today, the Foundation seeks to bring history forward into national and global dialogues by engaging audiences with Jefferson's world and ideas, and sharing the history of everyone, enslaved and free, who lived and labored at Monticello. Gardens & Grounds Intern (paid, full-time) The Gardens & Grounds department is seeking students who are currently enrolled or have recently graduated from academic programs related to horticulture, landscape architecture, or viticulture. Interns will be working alongside garden staff cultivating Thomas Jefferson's historic flower, vegetable and fruit gardens, as well as a recently established vineyard. In addition to horticultural labor, interns will spend at least 8 hours per week working on individual research projects such as GIS mapping, historical plant research, plant IDs, blog posts and curatorial input. Candidates must be able to do physical labor outdoors and possess a valid driver's license. Internship length is 12 weeks, 40 hrs/wk. Daily schedule is 7 am - 3:30 pm Monday - Friday, with occasional weekend hours when necessary, and typically May 15th - August 4th (willing to adjust start date as needed to accommodate final exams and graduation).
