Position: Youth Camping ASL Crew Member Dates: Session 1: June 24, 2023 - July 22, 2023 Session 2: July 29, 2023 - September, 2 2023 Location: Based out of Lake Wenatchee, WA, but local housing is not needed as crews camp together for their entire session. Project locations generally include national forests and parks throughout the state of Washington. Position Details: Build your future with Northwest Youth Corps Northwest Youth Corps (NYC) is known for providing youth and young adults work opportunities in the great outdoors in a fun team-based learning environment that emphasizes personal growth and stewardship. NYC is offering their award-winning program for youth who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing which provides participants opportunities to learn, grow, and experience success. Participants will build trail, restore habitat, learn valuable work and outdoor skills, create new friendships, and make memories that will last a lifetime! Explore: Under staff supervision with leaders who are fluent in ASL, crew members camp for the entire 5 weeks while completing conservation projects that include trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and invasive species removal throughout the Pacific Northwest! Learn: Each day crews spend an hour working on a SEED (Something Educational Every Day) lesson. SEED topics cover environmental science, career pathways, and leadership development. The potential for earning high school credit may also be available. Benefits: Receive up to $1,665 ($333 per week) for participation in this service-learning program plus an additional $250 ($50 per week) in bonuses. Bonus amounts are based on reliability and safety. Participants also have the potential to earn high school credit for their time. Hours: Though schedules can vary, most crews will conduct project work Monday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, crews will stay together to conduct resupply, shower, do laundry and participate in recreational activities (e.g., hike). During the week, crews will have a 30 minute lunch break as well as several rest/water breaks throughout the day. Required qualifications: -Proof of U.S citizenship -16-18 years old and a member of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing community -Ability to hike several miles and be on foot for up to 8 hours per day -Able to camp for the entirety of the session away from modern conveniences (ex: phones, electronics, etc.) -Positive mental attitude, willingness to learn, and a team player -Desire to conserve natural spaces and make an impact on the environment -Ability to follow safety protocols Northwest Youth Corps is an Equal Opportunity Employer - Our core purpose is to provide opportunities for youth and young adults to learn, grow, and experience success.
