Viterbo invites applications for the Speach Language Pathology Director of Clinical Education. The SLP Director of Clinical Education (SLP DCE) works collaboratively with the Chair and Program Director of the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences to assure evidence-based clinical teaching and clinical education program quality. The SLP DCE will uphold accreditation standards. The SLP DCE will demonstrate commitment to the philosophy, mission, and vision of Viterbo University, The College of Nursing and Health, and the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences. This is a full-time, 12-month, position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Administration (50% effort) Independently manage all aspects of the clinical placement process to meet CAA accreditation standards and ASHA certification standards. The priority will be for students in the MS-SLP program but may include undergraduate students in the BS Communication Disorders and Sciences seeking observation hours. Seek new off-campus, MS-SLP clinical practicum sites: create new off-campus clinical site agreements; coordinate the approval process for new clinical sites; and maintain and organize all approvals for clinical sites. Provide ongoing communication with all clinical site instructors and participate in onboarding events for new clinical site instructors. Onboard, confirm, and maintain MS-SLP student clinical-site-specific documentation through CALIPSO and the Student Passport system as needed. Collect and analyze data related to MS-SLP clinical experiences. Provide ongoing communication with students on clinical placements and requirements. Collaborate with the Department Chair and Program Director to solve issues arising with off-campus placement locations (cancellations, change in the number of students, etc.). Provide leadership for planning the number of off-campus clinical sites needed for upcoming semesters. Keep accurate data on the MS-SLP students in the program and track in CALIPSO, their progression and acquisition of clinical and academic competencies and required patient/client contact hours. Serve as the liaison for the Viterbo MS-SLP program with the La Crosse Medical Health Science Consortium. Teaching (35% effort) Accepts accountability for creating and facilitating effective teaching via on-campus clinical simulation activities/experiences. These simulation experiences will include but not be limited to: high-technology use; interprofessional collaborative learning; intercultural competency acquisition; discipline-specific diagnostic and therapeutic techniques; suitable experiences for observing undergraduate students, beginning MS-SLP students, as well as advanced students. Prepares and updates content and syllabi for assigned courses according to the MS-SLP program curricular plans, ASHA/CAA competency updates, and program outcomes. Demonstrates expertise in developing, conducting, and evaluating essential learning experiences within simulated and real-life clinical settings. Conducts course assessment activities to evaluate and enhance student learning. Makes recommendations for resource acquisitions. Co-directs student capstone projects as needed Service (15% effort) Shares talents as a resource person/mentor to colleagues and/or students. Participates in professional, university, college, and departmental activities/committees. Participates in local, state, and national professional organizations. Participates in on-going departmental quality improvement/accreditation activities. May participate in one day/week of off-campus or on-campus, department-contracted, clinical practice. General Requirements/Qualifications : Meets the requirements for administrator with faculty rank of Viterbo University, the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences, and relevant accreditation bodies. Other required qualifications include: Doctorate degree (one of the following): Doctor of Speech-Language Pathology (SLPD); or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Communication Disorders and Sciences (or closely related discipline) with MS/MA-SLP; or Doctor of Education (EdD) with MS/MA-SLP. Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. Evidence of at least 5 years of professional clinical work experience. Eligible for Wisconsin licensure to practice SLP in medical and/or educational settings. Excellent management/supervisory skills. Excellent written and/or verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. The employee is expected to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
