SUMMARY: Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Student Outplacement supports the Head of School and parents in the placement of graduating sixth-grade students into secondary school. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, responsible, organized, flexible, thoughtful, and a clear communicator. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Participates in producing materials for the secondary school admissions process, and supports families in submitting paperwork in a timely fashion. Meets with the Head of School, Director of Upper School, and sixth-grade families in counseling sessions during the summer months and during the sixth-grade year. Develops a deep understanding of the Los Angeles area secondary school market, and is able to articulate the distinctions among them. Educates families about the range of choices for applications, including public, parochial, charter, and magnet, as well as independent school options. Works with sixth-grade students to prepare for the interview process. Participates in the planning, coordinating, communicating about, and implementing of the secondary school application process. Partners with the Director of Upper School and the Registrar on the production of transcripts, teacher reports, administrative reports, and other materials in support of sixth-grade applications to secondary schools. As needed, supports families of younger students in outplacement. Attends meetings, along with the Head of School, with Secondary School Admissions personnel and coordinates visits to The Center by secondary schools as requested and appropriate. Upholds the highest level of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism. Attends professional meetings and conferences as appropriate. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree required A minimum of five years of relevant experience at an independent school is required Ability to manage large projects effectively and efficiently Ability to support a socio-economically, ethnically, culturally, and otherwise diverse community Initiative and tenacity Competitive salary and excellent benefits package.
