Position Summary The Outdoor Program Coordinator serves as Camp Director in the summer months and is responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of program events and offerings that provide high-quality activities for girls that are aligned to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) venues throughout the region, with a special focus on GSCB camp properties. The nature of this position requires the individual to recruit, train, and support volunteers that deliver programs directly to girls. Additionally, the incumbent serves as the seasonal camp director, with a requirement for living on site during resident camp sessions. Under the direction of the Director of Program and Partnerships the Coordinator ensures that services and support are integrated throughout the GSSCB council area and that outdoor programs support the strategic plan of GSCB. Coordinators in this position have responsibility for direct supervision of outdoor programs, including boating, target sports, high and low ropes, zipline, etc. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Recruit, train, place, evaluate and recognize a team of volunteers that sustain outdoor program delivery and manage specialty certifications of volunteers Serve as the seasonal Camp Director in the summer months Work closely with Director of Program and Partnership to interview, train and evaluate seasonal camp staff Implement targeted program development plans utilizing membership data and demographics that align with the overall council strategic plan Plan, coordinate and support facilitation of assigned outdoor programs (high/low ropes, zip line, target sports, boating, etc.) with responsibility for management of equipment and required trainings and certifications Participate in planning and implementing Girl Scouting leadership development programs and events for the outdoor program participation pathway area across the council's geographic area Research alternative facilities to house programs that target diverse under-served and/or not served areas of GSCB within an assigned regional area and ensures that the program offerings are relevant to the interests of the girls being served Assists in the development and implementation of council plans to continually evaluate girl outcomes and program results. Work closely with the mission delivery team to ensure that opportunities for member recruitment and retention are maximized through outdoor programs Use data from surveys and evaluations to improve and expand outdoor program offerings Interprets and embraces the Girl Scout Leadership Experience philosophy and the council's policies, procedures, and standards. Monitors and provides support for problem solving and conflict resolution in a timely manner . Performs other duties as assigned. Oral and Written Communication abilities ( i.e. In person, verbal, written, and/or phone); expresses ideas and facts in a clear and understandable manner appropriate for the individual or group; listens to and comprehends what others are saying; prepares organized and structured presentations; has demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of sensitive and confidential issues and communicate effectively with a diverse group of girls, volunteers, and staff. Project Management - formulates short and long term project goals, objectives, schedules, and priorities in line with council goals; anticipates issues, obstacles, or opportunities that may impact plans or actions; establishes courses of action for accomplishing goals while attending to and incorporating information obtained during day-to-day administrative tasks; identifies outcome measures at beginning of project. T echnical computer skills in Sales Force (CEI - Volunteer Systems) Personify, Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook, customer relationship management systems, and social networking. Volunteer Relations - understands the functions of volunteers; demonstrates flexibility to meet with volunteers; effectively delegates responsibility; monitors use of volunteers within existing constraints and guidelines; recognizes volunteer accomplishments; works effectively with volunteers. Judgment and Decision-Making - recognizes when immediate action is required and when sufficient information has been obtained to make a decision ; supports decisions or recommendations with data and/or reasoning; defines and implements solutions to problems. Physical Demands Must be able to work both in an office setting, and independently, and capable of lifting 25 pounds. Direct Reports None Travel Approximately 60 % travel Education or Experience Bachelor's Degree in environmental education or camping/outdoor recreation preferred. Other combinations of education and experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position may be considered. 3-5 years of experience in outdoor program design and development, outdoor program evaluation and facilitation, people management, marketing, community relations, or other relevant skills are preferred. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (Possess or able to obtain): First Aid/CPR/AED Food Handler's Permit required by specific county and state CMT Certification ACA Director Certification Valid Drivers License in good standing and good driving record. The ability to travel within the GSCB geographic area. The Following Requirements Apply to All Positions Become a registered member of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America. Have working knowledge of the Girl Scout philosophy and program and be committed to the Girl Scout mission. Cope with stressors and demands that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable and defined levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained. While all jobs involve dealing with stressors, the particular stressors may vary job to job. Adaptable and flexible work environment including but not limited to working additional hours (nights and weekends) as business needs may require, handling more than one task concurrently and, easily adapting to new assignments, systems, and processes. Possess a valid Driver's License and have regular access to a reliable vehicle . While all these continuing responsibilities apply to all jobs in Girl Scouts, the specific ways in which they apply, vary from job to job. Exposures and Environment Conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee may sit or stand for prolonged periods of time, walk at a brisk pace on uneven terrain and climb stairs. The employee will work in the outdoors, which includes regular exposure to heat and humidity during resident camp. Must be willing to live at camp when necessary which often requires working irregular or extended hours into evenings and weekends. Additional Comments: Outdoor Program Coordinator will be given flex time totaling 10 business days upon the succe ssful completion of Overnight Summer Camp.
