Head Start - Parent Specialist Location: South Los Angeles and Compton areas The following job summary is for descriptive purposes only. Actual job descriptions and job title is subject to change What We're Looking For: We are seeking a Parent Specialist who is responsible for the development of the Non- Federal Share plan, tracking and collection of In-Kind, the development of the parent handbook, and parent newsletter. The Parent Specialist will be responsible for planning and implementing parent orientations, the parent training calendar and the creation of weekly and monthly parent engagement activities at the site level. He or she is responsible for supporting and supervising parent interns. The most qualified candidate will have the following responsibilities: Implements the Non-Federal Share plan and monitors systems that support Non-Federal Share requirements. Monitors and collects all In-Kind donations, professional services and parent volunteer hours to generate reports for tracking purposes. Updates, prepares, assembles, distributes parent handbook and collects handbook receipt acknowledgements and places them in child files. Updates, prepares, assembles, distributes parent news letter. Responsible for the planning, preparation, implementation, and organization, of parent orientations. Provides a positive communication link between Head Start, other CSI departments, parents and community. Develops weekly and monthly parent engagement activities to be conducted at each site. Develops the parent training calendar for each program year ensuring all current Head Start performance standard requirements are met. Provides support in the recruitment of children for the program. Provides supervision, training and support to Parent Interns. Attends trainings and meetings as required. Adheres to CSI's attendance policies and procedures. Able to accept and implement constructive criticism. Able to maintain professional demeanor in difficult situations. Other duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES YOU SHOULD POSSESS: High School diploma or equivalent GED required. Expert in Microsoft Office computer skills required. Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred but not required. Successfully completes and maintains Basic First Aid and CPR certification. Two to three years experience working within a Head Start program, with demonstrated competency working with parents and families. Experience in planning and conducting workshops, meetings, and public speaking. Experience working or volunteering in social or community services required. Experience working in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic setting. Experience as a Head Start or Early Head Start parent preferred. Some knowledge of current Head Start performance standards as they relate to Parent Engagement and Non-Federal Share. Some knowledge of social service delivery, community resources, requirements and procedures. Knowledge of family dynamics, strategies for male involvement and family-centered practice. Ability to understand and implement Head Start Performance Standards, Child Care Licensing Regulations and agency policies and procedures Ability to identify, develop and nurture relations with other community partners and negotiate agreements when applies Ability to promote and teach family-strengths/family-centered practice Ability to exercise professional judgment in evaluating before making decisions Ability to communicate, both oral and written, to individuals with diverse backgrounds Ability to speak before groups of individuals Ability to accept, reflect and act upon feedback Must facilitate & model respectful, professional communication and teamwork, demonstrating a positive attitude Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor in difficult situations Ability to relate to diverse groups of people including low-income families. Ability to develop warm, open relationship with children, parents and staff. Ability to promote Head Start to children, families, co-workers and community. Ability to work as a team member with other staff and parents. Ability to coordinate projects, work independently and follow through with project completion. Ability to speak, read and write English well enough to understand and be understood by others; bilingual skills are preferred but not required. Must have computer skills, specifically word processing and data base applications Special Requirements: Must possess a valid California driver's license, have use of a motor vehicle and provide evidence of automobile liability insurance. Must meet State health requirements including passing a physical examination as a condition of employment, and must provide verification of a TB clearance at the time of employment. Mandatory CPR and Basic First Aid certificate, which employee is responsible to maintain for the duration of their employment with Head Start. Fingerprints must be on file with the Justice Department. Official transcripts of educational attainment are required before interview is granted.
