The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (https://www.linfield.edu/math) invites qualified applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics beginning Fall 2023. This position requires candidates to teach supporting courses for the mathematics program and the data science program in-person on the McMinnville, Oregon campus. The Mathematics and Computer Science Department currently offers majors and minors in a Mathematics, Data Science, and Computer Science. Each year the department graduates approximately 20 majors and 15-20 minors. While the department serves an important role in support for disciplines in the natural sciences, health sciences, economics and finance, it also maintains an active program of preparing students for graduate study and careers such as teaching, software engineering, data science, and actuarial science. Applicants with both the commitment and demonstrated ability to attract and retain students from under-represented groups are encouraged. RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach first-year courses supporting the undergraduate mathematics and data science curricula. Courses include introductory statistics, precalculus, finite math with calculus and possibly other courses supporting the data science program. Perform the normal duties of a faculty member, including service to the department. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or Masters degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, computer science, or statistics by 15 August 2023 Teaching experience, preferably with courses at the first-year level Strong commitment to student-centered education that emphasizes critical and creative thinking Ability to relate well to colleagues, students, and staff in a small-college environment Demonstrated record of and ongoing commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and experiences PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to teach a wide breadth of courses Interest and ability to assist with the program in data science APPLICATION PROCEDURES: To apply, please complete the online application process at https://linfieldfaculty.applicantpool.com/jobs and attach the following documents as ONE PDF document .
