Director of Choirs The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Director of Choirs . This is a full-time, exempt position within the Upper Campus reporting to the Head of Upper School beginning August 15, 2023. The ideal candidate will: Major Responsibilities Create and maintain a joyful space for the learning and creation of music. Direct the Upper School choral groups (Glee Club and Shipley Singers), the Middle School choirs, and the Lower School choirs. Serve as Music Director and Conductor for the Upper School musical theater production each year. Teach an Upper School elective in the Music department General Responsibilities Establish and maintain open, informative, and friendly communications with students and parents. Perform duties required of all full-time faculty including service as an advisor, trip chaperone, etc... Serve as faculty advisor for the Arts Committee. Participate in the life of the school and further community engagement through music. Qualifications The successful candidate must possess A Music Performance or Music Education Degree (Master's degree or equivalent professional experience preferred). A minimum of three years of teaching and conducting experience preferably in a private or independent school. Outstanding sight-reading and keyboard skills; the ability to lead a rehearsal from a keyboard. Familiarity with a broad range of classic and contemporary musicals and choral repertoire. Collegial and committed to collaborating with members of the Visual and Performing Arts program. A willingness to participate in co-curricular activities. The ideal candidate will possess the following: Maturity, collegiality, flexibility, and humor along with excellent communication skills and a commitment to high ethical professional standards. Ability to teach students with a variety of different experience levels (from the most novice to the most experienced). Committed to and passionate about teaching students across the entire range of grades (4-12), with a student-focused approach and attitude. Flexibility and willingness to adapt within the Performing Arts programs according to departmental needs and growth.
