Be a Star at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts! Baristas possess the knowledge and skills to create and sell handcrafted beverages based on company recipes to the customer. This is a great position for someone looking to get started in the customer service or hospitality fields. Work is split between our traditional coffee shop and concessions inside the theater lobby. Our Food and Beverage team is willing to train for this position and we promote from within. Located in downtown Tampa, the Straz offers flexible hours, event-based schedules including evenings and weekends, and a team-based work environment. Straz benefits for part-time staff include employee discounts and a 403(b) plan. Essential Functions: Creates a friendly and welcoming environment for Center guests. Welcomes and greets guests. Presents drink menus, makes recommendations, and answers questions regarding beverages. Answers questions about beverages and other services. Provides excellent customer service in a professional manner. Takes beverage orders from guests and servers. Serves guests quickly and efficiently, including preparation of food and beverages. Records drink orders accurately and immediately after receipt into the register system. Prepares and serves coffee drinks consistent with the Center's standard drink recipes. Accepts guest payment, processes credit card charges, and makes change (if applicable). Presents a neat and professional appearance in correspondence with the uniform code. Maintains cleanliness in all areas of the Coffee Shop and coffee-related areas. Reports all equipment problems and maintenance issues to Coffee Shop Manager. Assists with restocking and replenishment of inventory and supplies in the Coffee Shop and coffee-related areas. Minimum Qualifications: Great communication skills, personable and friendly with customers. Working knowledge of coffee or eagerness to learn. Must possess basic math skills. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and some holidays. Education and Work Experience: High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred. Prior experience as a Barista in a full-service, high-volume restaurant preferred, but not required. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required remain stationary for extended periods of time, minimum of five hours, use the computer and telephone, reach, and communicate both in person and by telephone. The employee is occasionally required to move up to 25lbs, ascend/descend on ladders, and crawl in confined spaces.
