JOB TITLE: Sexual Assault Case Manager Department: Advocate Reporting Manager: Program Supervisor Position Status: Full-Time Classification Level: Non-Exempt Revised: September 2021 POSITION SUMMARY : Provide crisis intervention, case management, advocacy and follow-up services to victims of rape, sexual assault and sexual abuse; provide comprehensive services in partnership with police, district attorney, and/or community-based agencies serving victims of sexual violence. Stationed at the Buffalo Police Department Special Victim's Unit. The Sexual Assault Case Manager serves as a member of the Department's Case Management Team. This position is responsible for providing representation on the Erie County Rape Crisis Advisory Committee. The position requires mandatory on-call shifts in addition to regularly scheduled 40 hours/week. The regular hours are Monday-Friday. Final scheduled to be determined, some evening and/or weekend hours required. Essential Functions of the Position Include, But Are Not Limited to: Maintain a commitment to the mission and work of Crisis Services with a deep appreciation for and sensitivity to the guiding principles of the organization. Assist in ensuring provision of Advocate Department services co-located at the Buffalo Police Department and other police jurisdictions, including but not limited to: crisis intervention response, follow up and outreach to clients, case management services, personal advocacy, linkage to community resources, assistance in obtaining NYS Office of Victim Services compensation, and assistance with criminal justice processes, and assistance with criminal justice and/or court advocacy for victims of sexual violence. Provide follow up and case management services to assist with reduction in victimization, increased level of functioning, improved capacity for independence, reduction in level of isolation. Perform follow-up site visits/outreach to clients. Provide on-site crisis intervention response to victims of sexual violence at police precincts, district attorney's office and other community-based locations. Represent the department and agency on community coalitions and committees. Provide consultation to department volunteers working with presenting survivors at Erie County hospitals. Participatesinmandatoryagencymeetingsandqualityassurance Attendsrequiredtrainingandprofessionaldevelopment Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioningofthe On Call: scheduled on call is required outside of the regularly scheduled shift covering the Department's 24/7 Hospital Response Advocacy services. Hospital On Call: If activated, may be required to respond to local county emergency rooms to provide crisis intervention and supportive services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, family violence and/or elder abuse and/or provide support to Volunteers who are on call for the Hospital Response Program. Position Qualifications: EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree from an accredited college and/or university in human service field, public health, social work or education EXPERIENCE : Bachelor's degree with minimum two (2) years paid experience, preferably with victims of family violence/sexual assault OR Master's degree with minimum one (1) year experience, preferably in working family violence/sexual assault. Excellent skills in assessing levels of emotional distress and reacting appropriately. Demonstrated ability to work with people of various ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender identities. Awareness of best practices of risk reduction and survivor support strategies. ValidNYSdriver'slicenseisrequiredwithacleandrivingrecordandaccesstoreliable SKILLS : Demonstrated knowledge of sexual violence, domestic violence and stalking dynamics and effects, public awareness and crisis intervention services. External: The Sexual Assault Case manager will work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. hospitals, law enforcement agencies, community service organizations, government agencies, courts and families) to provide a comprehensive range of services including advocacy, counseling, crisis intervention, support and guidance to meet the needs of the clients and their families.
