Description:

Position Summary: Ensures the safety and protection of customers, guests, employees, and assets, in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, polices an procedures. Patrols IPCC property or conducts stationary posts as instructed and serves as a presence and visible deterrent to crime and rule infractions. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Patrols all assigned areas; identifies and reports suspicious activities to appropriate personnel. Assists in training and development of newly hired staff. Performs Security Desk duties, to include opening of doors, answering telephone, checks suspicious packages, and dispatches officers where needed. Performs interior and exterior checks for safety hazards and submits work order to supervisor. Assists customers with motorist assists, vehicle lockouts, towing of disabled vehicles. Ensures employees adhere to all policies and procedures; reports any violations. Responds and controls emergency situations, which may include resetting alarms, evacuation and/or shutdown of building, preservation of crime scene. Conducts initial investigations by interviewing and obtaining written statements from customers/employees; completes a thorough and accurate report in a timely manner. Completes and verifies paperwork, departmental logs, reports and parking violations. Patrols and conducts surveillance of assigned areas for theft, suspicious activity or illegal activities, parking violations, and intoxicated persons. Escorts and/or assists departments with transfers of packages or currency from one destination to another. Conducts visual surveillance inside and outside the location assigned. Maintains and controls access to restricted areas. Accepts and logs into property locker, lost and found property and tags for safekeeping. Fosters and maintains positive guest relations Performs opening and closing procedures in the main building and Travel Center facility. Provides security patrol of IPCC/IPM and assigned areas to prevent theft, vandalism, burglaries, and other illegal criminal activity. Performs interior/exterior patrol of Travel Center facility. Coordinates with the local law enforcement and immediately reports any illegal or suspicious criminal activities. Detain persons who commit crime on IPCC/IPMI property and contact local law enforcement for transportation and prosecution. Performs CPR or First Aid as required in the event of medical emergencies. Ensures equipment is clean and in working order and that uniforms are clean and complete. Attends training classes and seminars on security methods, techniques, safety, first aide, and related law enforcement courses. Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required. Performs other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED; two years security experience. CPR/First Aid, NM Security Level III Certification. Must be at least 21 years of age. Current valid New Mexico Driver's License with no arrests in the past year except minor traffic violations. No felony convictions or misdemeanors. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation and physical exam. Native American preference will be given. Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications: Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements. Knowledge of security operations, principles and practices including investigation, patrol, communications, records, community/public relations, and crime prevention. Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels. Ability to follow instructions in verbal and written format Ability to demonstrate moral character, honesty, tact, fairness, lack of prejudice and desire to help when dealing with people. Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action. Ability to make intelligent and effective decisions in routine and emergency situations. Ability to prepare accurate, complete and legible reports and present detailed, accurate and objective oral presentations and response to questions. Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules. Skill in providing training and communicating information to others. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other law enforcement/regulatory agencies, departmental staff, tribal officials, and the public. Certified in CPR and First Aid within three months of employment. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee occasionally is required to taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must pass weapon qualifications as required. Work Environment: Work is generally performed both in a indoors setting with a moderate to high noise level and outdoors where exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts and mists may occur. Prolonged standing and walking may be on uneven surfaces or unstable ground. Situations may occur where prolonged sitting, driving, walking, or waiting is required.
