Athletic Field Groundskeeper April 1 through October 31. Part-time Seasonal Hourly-No benefits Weekend work required $13.00 per hour depending on qualifications (Subject to Illinois Minimum Wage Statutes based on age) SUMMARY: Athletic Field Groundskeeper will assist the Lead Groundskeeper with maintaining the playing fields and ballpark grounds. Prior grounds experience is preferred but are willing to train individuals who have a positive attitude, good work ethic, and the ability to learn new tasks quickly. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following duties, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order) Must be 16 years or older and able to meet physical demands of job. Preparation and maintenance of fields to agreed standards, including line marking, positioning bases, and pitching plates, setting temporary fencing, infield surface preparation, raking and brushing dirt, etc. Liaison with tournament organizers and supporting their requirements and requests during events (including field repairs, litter/garbage, etc.). Collaborate with internal external customers in a positive manner. General Maintenance of the surrounding grounds such as garbage, trimming, plantings, weed control, etc. Maintenance of dugouts, backstops, fencing and other onsite structures. Ensuring high level of security of compound, machinery and tools. Manual handling and regular use of hand tools (e.g., rakes, brushes, shovels, brooms) and machinery (e.g., trimmers, lawn mowers, utility vehicle). Appropriate and regular maintenance of equipment. Safe operation of all site machinery and hand tools. General on-site assistance to the Events & Facilities Coordinator. Maintain safe working conditions on site and ensure safety is implemented by reporting any issues. Prepare and inspect athletic facilities for safety and ensures correction action is taken as needed and reports any potential hazard to supervisor. Inspect grounds and fields regularly to determine field conditions (playability of fields), safety concerns and maintenance needs and report to appropriate staff. Foster and maintain effective professional working relationships with the public and co-workers. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: Positive attitude and willingness to work hard each day - an interest in the sport and/or enjoys working outdoors and is content with lone working. Ability to prioritize, problem solve and undertake tasks given time constraints and remain calm under pressure. Prior ground maintenance experience preferred. Knowledge of and ability to ensure compliance with applicable rules, standards and guidelines for upkeep and maintenance of athletic fields. Knowledge of and skill in using required equipment. Knowledge of and ability to follow safety procedures, practices, and regulations. Knowledge of tools and work procedures used for athletic field maintenance. Willingness to perform routine and repetitive tasks. Ability to assume responsibility for equipment and tools. Ability to work with minimal supervision and make appropriate decisions. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Self-starting attitude with ability to work unsupervised and take initiative. Operation of a variety of tools, equipment, both mechanical power and hand tools. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to: Work outdoors - exposed to heat cold, humidity, rain, etc. Moderate exposure to dust, lime, fertilizers, pollen, etc. Subject to working varied/long work hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Lifting in of items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis Perform work involving repetitive operations and physical skill and energy. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma; Valid Driver's License and any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skill and abilities.
