The Director of Logistics is responsible for optimizing the efficiency and integrity of the corporation's warehouse management, customer delivery and transportation functions. The role is responsible to lead these functions to achieve plan results, goals (KPI's) and to achieve continued and sustainable improvements. Essential Accountabilities Manage functions to achieve service level, inventory and cost goals. Manage the selection and development of department staff to advance the department's and corporation's objectives. Identify, develop and implement training plans using internal and external resources to advance team members' capabilities and proficiencies in the practices warehousing, inventory management and transportation. Develop and implement inventory programs for finished goods and raw materials that ensure the proper production and positioning of inventory across all operational sites and distribution centers while achieving inventory turns and service level objectives. Manage warehousing and customer delivery operations to achieve safety, service targets and spending objectives. Serve as the operational lead and core team member on all system projects related to warehousing, transportation, inventory tracking and reporting as well as leading in the definition and maintenance of logistics' master data. Develop and manage budgets related to warehouse and transportation functions. Provide the day-to-day management and control of department expenses and inventory deployment to ensure that spending and working capital remain in line with financial plans and performance. Streamline logistic activities, identifying continuous improvement opportunities of processes and procedures, implementing cost savings initiatives, both internally and through our external partners (i.e. FG carriers) Work with international carriers and freight forwarders to streamline the flow of goods across borders and through customs. Develop and communicate logistic policies and procedures, implementing best practices. Monitor the logistics' operations to ensure that staff complies with administrative policies and procedures, government regulations. Negotiate and authorize contracts with carriers, warehouse operators for services and preferential rates. Develop and implement KPI requirements to drive cost and efficiency improvements. Develop and implement profit improvement plans and change management plans relating to logistics. Control costs by evaluating shipments, consolidating loads, selecting the most cost-effective method to shipment and storing of finished goods. Remain current with latest logistic technology systems, procedures and regulatory changes. Interview, select, coach, train, manage and appraise the performance of logistic personal. Promote safety awareness, training and education, reporting of injuries and work hazards, investigation of accidents and complying with Placon standards, rules and regulations. Perform other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's in Business Administration specializing in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management or a related field. A minimum of five years of direct leadership experience in inventory management, transportation and warehousing. Proven experience working in and implementing an ERP package, preferably Oracle. APICS CPIM desired. Desired Skills Thorough understanding of warehousing, inventory management and transportation practices Proven P/L management skills PC application and ERP system knowledge Strong leadership skills Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills Ability to use problem solving techniques effectively KPI driven assessment Position Requirements Work Environment Conditions: Inside (office) Equipment/Tools Used: (office equipment , machinery, tools, software, etc.) Personal Computer, fax, phone, copy machine, Oracle and Microsoft Office software Physical Requirements: ­­­­ Normal Office Mental Requirements: Reading, Writing, Calculating Interpersonal Skills Reasoning/Analysis Works with Minimal Supervision Other Mental Requirements: Ability to lead groups and achieve objectives; ability to manage multiple priorities Travel Frequency (in addition to seminars or related training): Local: 8 times per year Regional: 1 time per quarter National: 1 time per quarter International: 1 time per year
