The Hun School of Princeton seeks a dynamic and creative Upper School English Teacher for a position beginning in August 2023. Good literature, because of its thematic richness and levels of meaning, as well as the moral and ethical ambiguities it often expresses, is the ideal medium through which students can learn to analyze and synthesize complex information and form meaningful intellectual decisions and opinions. Justifying those findings effectively and succinctly, as well as manifesting depth of learning through a variety of well-crafted presentations, both written and oral, is the primary goal of the English curriculum. The ideal candidate will be able to make English come alive for our students, focusing more intently on skill development and learner engagement than on conferring information within the context of a curriculum that privileges interdisciplinary connections and student agency. Responsibilities: Four (4) sections of English classes; Team teaching in our annual NextTerm minimester; Serving as an advisor in our advisory program; Continuous professional growth in the content area; Contributions to Hun community life beyond the classroom in roles that could include coaching a sport, directing a co-curricular activity, or living on campus as a dorm parent (if the opportunity presents itself). Qualifications: A bachelor's degree; advanced degree preferred; Three years of full-time teaching experience is preferred, but other relevant experience will certainly be considered; Experience with teaching using the Harkness Method would be valuable; Ability to teach a variety of courses in the discipline; A love for working with young people; A commitment to a diverse and inclusive community; A passion for teaching in an innovative, experiential, and student-centered environment; Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff; Personal qualities including resilience, approachability, and kindness; Excellent technology skills and experience integrating technology into the curriculum; A desire to contribute to school life outside of the classroom on a lively boarding school campus.
