TRANSPORTATION SAFETY & REGULATORY MANAGER The Transportation Regulatory Manager must be able to work both independently and as part of a team to maintain Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance for our large and diverse 100% hazardous materials commercial fleet and strive to further safety goals related to transportation within the organization. The Transportation Safety & Regulatory Manager will report to the Director of Operations. Key Responsibilities and Duties Ability to uphold the company's mission vision and values. Promote safety and compliance awareness in both work practices and company culture. Serve as subject matter expert and go-to person for matters related to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations /Hazardous Materials Regulations. Working with Human Resources Department, oversee the successful implementation of drug and alcohol testing program. Maintain accident register and execute post-accident/incident DOT reporting, as necessary. Assist with post-accident/incident analysis and subsequent reporting. Monitor and report on roadside inspection and crash data as related to CSA, serving as company subject matter expert. Periodically conduct internal DOT audits of company records including driver qualification and vehicle files. Monitor company compliance with corporate preventative maintenance program for fleet of 500 commercial motor vehicles. Represent company in FMCSA and PHMSA audits as required. Responsible for developing maintaining and delivering content for required hazardous materials training for Austin employees, as well as orientation for new managers. Keep library of hazardous materials shipping documents up to date. Maintain transportation-related content on company intranet (PowderKeg). Periodically renew transportation permits including hazmat safety permit and registration and several special permits. Work with Austin manufacturing contacts on matters related to performance-oriented packaging for hazardous materials. Interface with tax department to ensure IFTA/IRP data is of a high quality, filings are done on time. Oversee company telematics (PeopleNet - ELD) and serve as subject matter expert for driver hours of service. Responsible for maintenance of DOT security plan. Represent company at industry conferences and events as needed. Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience 5-10 years of experience working for a motor carrier in a role related to compliance and safety. A post-secondary education is preferred and/or a combination of equivalent education & work experience. Skills and Knowledge Position requires strong drive to quickly become subject matter expert and primary contact for Austin Powder corporate transportation on all matters DOT and hazardous materials related to highway transportation. Managerial experience in the trucking industry or with a private fleet. Knowledge of FMCSRs/HMR. Ability to work across multiple levels both within the organization and outside, including DOT contacts, vendors, etc. Strong critical-thinking, problem solving and analytical skills as well as a strong drive to dig into problems and find solutions. Skilled in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to work flexible hours based on business needs. Work Environment The position will be based out of Cleveland, Ohio, and will be a combination of remote, corporate offices and Company locations.
