The Classroom Aide works with Teachers, Teacher Assistants, and Family Educators to provide support in one or more of the following program areas: education, riding the bus, food service, and cleaning. There are multiple Part-Time and Full-Time openings available for this position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Requires a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or the ability to obtain a degree. PREFERRED COMMUNICATION SKILLS Bilingual Spanish, Russian, Arabic or Chuukese capabilities are preferred but not required. A bilingual differential may be available based on Program need and successfully passing a bilingual skills test. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION Must pass initial physical examination as required. Registration with the Central Background Registry of the Child Care Division. Driver qualification status is not required for this position. Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification and a Food Handler's Card. Requires enrollment in a Child Development Associate (CDA) program within the first 60 days of employment. This position is subject to MWVCAA's Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for client-facing positions. ** ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Supports teachers by maintaining classroom environments. Creates a social-emotional climate which enhances children's understanding of themselves as individuals and in relation to others. Develops children's cognitive skills. Assists in pre-trip inspection of the bus. Supports parents and children during transitions to and from the program. Provides parents with opportunities to participate in the program. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Required to frequently reach with hands and arms; regularly required to climb or balance; occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Regularly lift and/or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical ability to quickly evacuate children from the classroom in an emergency. Manual dexterity for handling office equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT Mostly indoor classroom and bus riding environment. Frequent outdoor supervision of children and monitoring pick up/drop off. Occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals, creative substances such as paints. Occasional exposure to body fluids/biohazards (such as saliva, vomit and urine). Potential risk of exposure to COVID-19 and other conditions. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as face coverings may be required. Enrollment in the Central Background Registry is beneficial if you are even considering working with children in the State of Oregon, since it will be required before you can start a position.
