Job Summary : This position when applicable involves the installation of data wiring throughout the health system. The candidate applying will have knowledge on specifications for data runs, installing termination boxes, and the ability to Fluke test the lines after installation. Since the majority of installations occur above the ceiling the position will require continuous time climbing and working from ladders. This position involves the planning and installation of electric requirements on smaller in-house projects that are completed in lieu of a contracted company. When not running data the position includes installation, repair and preventative maintenance on hospital electrical equipment and systems. Key responsibilities include the electrical distribution systems (normal and emergency power), fire alarm systems, nurse call systems, car charging systems, parking lighting systems and all interior and exterior lighting systems. This trade will assist other facility workers with associated electrical installation or repair. Independent judgement is required for handling details of each job or task. Job Responsibilities include : Safety Demonstrates an understanding of emergency procedures, fire drills, evacuation procedures, and internal/external disaster procedures, as outlined in the fire safety policy, knows personal role in the event of a fire while on duty. Exceeds: Understands fire alarm system and equipment. Can properly reset the system, demonstrates the ability to place certain points or zones on hold and troubleshoot problems. Provides a safe environment; demonstrates alertness to areas needing attention in avoiding unsafe conditions such as but not limited to: wet flooring, blocked egress areas etc. Maintains work area in a clean and safe manner on a daily basis. Always wears all personal protective equipment when required. Carries out duties in a safe professional manner, with focus on customer service as a high priority. Exceeds: No substantiated complaints from patients, physicians, staff & visitors. Ability to use the Life Safety Drawings to identify smoke and fire barrier construction throughout the facility. Anticipates potential and environmental safety hazards and takes appropriate actions. Emergency Response Availability for on call duty when / as required. Works additional hours if required, including occasional shift changes due to work assignments. Exceeds: on occasion voluntarily offers to change primary work schedule to accommodate work assigned. Participates in availability for unscheduled Emergencies when they occur. Participates in Facilities On - Call Weekly Program (candidates hired after 2020) Systems and Equipment Maintenance Installs and tests IT data wiring according to wiring specifications as first priority. Maintains electrical distribution systems, fire alarm systems, and nurse call systems. Maintains a variety of Cayuga Health System electrical equipment including lighting, remote controls, signals and alarms, master clock system, systems and storage battery chargers. Maintains and repairs emergency generator system, storage battery systems (UPS's) and storage battery chargers. Exceeds: For storage systems contracted outside of CMC, the electrician will assist the Facility Manager in scheduling and reviewing work completed. Performs maintenance on other equipment where knowledge is demonstrated. Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on CMC equipment at the main campus and satellite locations. Exceeds: Meets all accreditation and code standards. Installs new equipment in accordance with manufacturers and CMC standards and policies. Assists the Facility Manager in scheduling and implementation of annual and 5 year planned maintenance of the electrical distribution system with outside resources. Systems and Equipment Operations Installs electric materials and equipment on in-house projects Investigates all work request submitted. Exceeds: Remedies any safety issues that arise before ending shift. Provides operational suggestions that may improve system performance. Assists in the instruction to medical center staff in use of operation and equipment. Maintains current knowledge levels on designated medical center equipment. Assists when needed in troubleshooting the electrical car charging stations. Facilities Support Maintains tools, inventory, and equipment. Assists other members of department with performing required duties. Performs other duties as assigned. Assists Facility Manager in estimating small projects. Assists facility Manager in implementing and managing contracted vendors completing electrical maintenance or repairs to CMC equipment and systems. Information Management Accurately uses the hospital information system to enter and retrieve maintenance related data. Demonstrates knowledge of the work order system. Requirements : Education - High School Diploma / GED Experience - Three years' experience as an electrician (Journeyman). Experience includes knowledge and the ability to work with 480/277/208/120/ single and three phase wiring systems. Experience also includes knowledge and the ability to work on switch gear, controls and relays. The candidate will have a strong knowledge of the National Electrical Coode, town or AHJ electrical codes, and the ability to interpret construction design electrical drawings and specifications. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely with other members of the department. Licensure - Master License preferred but not required. Physical Requirements - This position requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Requirements also include climbing, bending, and the ability to get into tight spaces while working off a ladder.
