Job Purpose: The Manager, Ambulatory Surgery Center i s accountable and responsible for the planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the clinical operations of the surgery center. The ASC Manager is responsible to the ASC Regional Director. The Manager maintains open and frequent communication while coordinating activities routinely, as appropriate, with the ASC Regional Director, Medical Director, Business Office Manager, Quality/Risk Manager, Materials Manager and Quality Consulting Committee. Primary Duties and Responsibilities : Responsible for the management of the pre-op admitting processes and recovery phase I and II. Responsible for the management and direction of the operating rooms, biomedical engineering and ordering of supplies. Manages the nursing care of patients in all clinical areas with Pre/PACU & OR Charge positions. Collaborates regularly throughout the day with charge nurses. Assures that patients in clinical areas are receiving a high quality of nursing care, measured according to the current standard of nursing practice and the practice for post anesthesia care. Remains involved on a daily basis in all clinical areas in order to monitor patient progress and levels of care. Helps to ensure activities within the Center are compliance with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards. Manages Personnel: Fosters and environment that promotes staff growth & development along with maintaining a positive proactive view about processes of the surgery center. Recruits and screens applicants for clinical personnel for hire and oversees training plans to facilitate a positive new hire onboarding experience. Orients new personnel, maintains clinical employee records. Performs regular written employee evaluations. Develops team by providing training opportunities, ongoing coaching, and performance feedback and management, aligning team goals and accountability with organization initiatives and service standards. Evaluates & overseas staff & surgical schedule on a daily basis for best staffing and patient flow. Understands job duties of all clinical positions & clinical staff are adhering to all policies, procedures & safety programs are followed. Maintains clinical hour benchmark or less. (established through process) On an as needed basis may act in the capacity of a RN, either in the preoperative, postoperative or operating room area. Chairs monthly staff meetings & informs ASC Regional Director of agenda items. Assigns staff to take minutes of all meetings. Maintains & records attendance for staff meetings. Promotes education activities for the Center. Coordinates in service education relevant to patient care in the ASC setting including annual safety education. Encourages staff participation in preparation of in service education. Coordinates BLS, ACLS, & PALS with all clinical staff and maintaining records Supports cost management with the Director. Schedules staff in order to ensure safe nurse/patient levels within controlling cost. Controls, orders and obtains supplies for clinical areas as needed. Assures that staff members use supplies in a cost-effective manner. In conjunction with the Director, supervises material department and coordinator. Ensures the proper function of all equipment used in clinical areas. Evaluates needs for supplies and equipment and consults with the Director regarding the purchase of needed items. Assist with Risk Management activities: Writes, screens and delegates variance reports (unexpected outcomes) Assist with monitoring variances Informs Risk Manager, Director, Medical Director of any variance where there is a perceived risk to the facility. Monitors and adheres to clinical measures & indicators. Assist with determining clinical goals and manage resources to achieve goals. Assures variance follow-up with surgeons and/or patient is completed. Participates in the Centers Performance Improvement / Quality Consulting Committee. Assists with Performance Improvement activities Assist with creation/maintenance of the Centers policies and procedures Assist with Quality/Risk and Infection Control in maintaining infectious disease control activities. Assures the cleanliness and the maintenance of the facility is meeting the standards of the center. Provides input for budget development. Assist other staff members to ensure timely and accurate completion of medical records. Maintains an awareness & understanding of current regulatory legislation as it impacts the surgery center while instituting changes as a warranted, available & assist during all AAASF Accreditation, IDPH and other state and federal surveyors. Responsible for compliance with the Safe Medical Device Act and FDA reporting Responsible for compliance with all medication recalls. Responsible for compliance with OSHA standards and activities associated with hazardous material. Assures compliance with OrthoIllinois/OrthoMidwest Corporate Compliance Plan. Education and Experience Requirements: Associate's degree or equivalent in Nursing from two-year college or technical school A minimum of two years of experience in a similar position and/or performing similar tasks A minimum of three years of experience managing people Current and unrestricted RN license for the applicable state you will be practicing in Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Google Suites Expert working knowledge of HST Environmental/Working Conditions: Work location is the operating room, sterile supply room and dirty/clean utility room. Exposure to biohazard materials such as blood, body fluids, ionizing radiation, and other conditions common to the operating room environment. Physical/Mental Demands: Stand and walk for extended periods of time Requires lifting, carrying, or moving heavier objects (i.e. pushing or pulling up to 100 pounds and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds Possess full range of motion in shoulders and arms, including reaching above or below the shoulder. Finger dexterity for typing on a keyboard and using a mouse for extended periods of time; ability to twist hands or wrists repetitively Good balance Vision (e.g., depth perception, color vision, strong vision up close); hearing (e.g., high pitch sounds, soft or distant sounds) This description is intended to provide only basic guidelines for meeting job requirements.
