Clarke University, a private, Catholic institution of higher learning in Dubuque Iowa is seeking to appoint a new Dean for Academic Affairs. The Dean will serve as the second officer within Academic Affairs, reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean will assume responsibility for a wide range of duties related to student success--with a focus on student retention--academic support, faculty development and retention, and academic administrative procedures. The Dean will: Oversee the efforts to stabilize student retention through the institution's student resource offices, effective academic advising, and the first-year academic program. Oversee the academic advising unit, the Margaret Mann Resource Center, the Office of the Registrar, the Library, and other student support units. Collaborate with the Enrollment Management, Admissions, and Marketing offices in establishing and enacting clear protocols-including timelines--for communicating information about the University's academic programs Collaborate with the department chairs, the faculty and faculty committees to ensure transparency and clear communication within Clarke University's shared governance system Work with the department chairs, the Registrar, the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the President's Cabinet in developing the annual academic calendar Work with the department chairs and the Office of the Registrar, as the primary reviewer of Clarke's Annual Academic Catalog within the academic administration Oversee administrative procedures in a variety of areas, including faculty and staff evaluation Represent the academic administration on various faculty and institutional committees as assigned. The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and credentials: A terminal degree (PhD preferred). A minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience in higher education A commitment to student success and student engagement with specific experience in developing/overseeing student retention and persistence efforts a plus Successful leadership experience at the level of department chair or above, including experience in curriculum development and oversight, and instructor evaluation A commitment to transparency and clear communication A demonstrated ability to work with a range of constituent groups.
