A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A REGISTERED NURSE SUPERVISOR (RN) As a Registered Nurse Supervisor, you are responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes through the implementation of critical pathways in our pain center department. You assess, plan, implement, and coordinate care for our patients while performing routine nursing visits. By familiarizing yourself with our policies and procedures, you recognize emergency situations as well as demonstrate knowledge about drug usage, their actions, and side effects to ensure your patients are receiving proper care. You provide both verbal and written instructions to patients and their families for home care, which includes emergency numbers as well as general and physician instructions. In addition, you make sure that supplies are adequately stocked and equipment is in working order. You check medications for expiration dates, conduct pill counts, and rotate supplies to keep outdates at a minimum. Using a developmental perspective, you demonstrate continued competence in assessing, treating, and caring for individuals based upon age-specific needs. You ensure that patient information is communicated in a way that maintains confidentiality and continuity of care. Serving as a good leader, you oversee the MAs and CNAs on your staff to make sure they are following procedures as well as answer any questions or concerns they bring your way. You interact with all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees in a mature, responsible manner to maintain a positive and professional hospital environment. At times, you conduct human resources-related tasks, including selecting, training, and assigning individuals to be a part of your team as well as conducting orientation. Patient safety is a top priority for you, which is why you take great care to follow infection control policies by enforcing medication administration, store procedures, and controlled substance regulations. Establishing a good rapport with your fellow colleagues and being a good leader comes naturally to you, and it brings you great fulfillment knowing you serve in such an important role as an RN supervisor within our pain management department! QUALIFICATIONS FOR A REGISTERED NURSE SUPERVISOR (RN) Associate degree from an accredited college or university Valid license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Kansas 1+ years of experience in pain management or working at a pain clinic Experience as a supervisor Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of being hired A Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) is preferred but multiple factors will be taken into consideration. Do you have excellent verbal and written communication skills? Are you highly organized and attentive to detail? Can you effectively prioritize tasks while demonstrating good time management? Are you able to mentor and inspire others to put forth their best effort? Do you work well both independently and as part of a team?
