Camp Colonie, the first fully integrated camp in the state of New York, provides a supportive and supervised program for individuals with physical, developmental, or emotional disabilities as well as typically developing children and young adults. This special needs camp's programs work hand in hand to provide a fully integrated environment where campers and students of all abilities learn and play together. We are working on bettering our community and making sure we have a positive impact on our campers, as well as our camp staff. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SEASONAL CAMP DIRECTOR Your schedule in this seasonal role is full-time and during the summer, working six weeks straight for our integrated summer camp program for children and young adults aged 5-21 years old. While the schedule can be demanding, you have the opportunity to work with a dedicated and talented team of staff who share a passion for helping others. As a Seasonal Camp Director with our human services nonprofit, you are responsible for ensuring that our summer camp program runs smoothly and effectively. This includes recruiting, training, and supervising staff, maintaining facilities and equipment, and implementing operational procedures to ensure the health and safety of everyone at Camp Colonie. Additionally, you are responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating recreational programs that cater to children and young adults with disabilities, and engaging in education and information activities to raise public awareness about our camp. Additionally, you maintain positive relationships with local school districts, parents, and students, and be comfortable reporting and analyzing data related to clinical services and student progress. You love what you do and enjoy spending time with those with special needs. You work around the clock to ensure they have the best summer camp experience possible. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A SEASONAL CAMP DIRECTOR Must be at least 21 years of age Bachelor's degree in a field related to camping, rehabilitation, or education NYS Students with Disabilities (SWD) Teacher Certification Minimum of five years of administrative or supervisory experience Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Covid-19 vaccination To be successful in this special needs camp role, you need to be highly organized, detail-oriented, and have excellent communication with interpersonal skills. This seasonal recreational management position should have a strong background in human services or nonprofit work, and experience working with children and young adults with special needs. Knowledge of NYS Department of Health and OPWDD camp operation regulations is essential, as is the ability to develop and adhere to a comprehensive Safety/Risk Management Program.
