Starting in 2022, 988 became the nationwide, easy-to-remember 3-digit dialing code for Americans in crisis to connect with suicide prevention and mental health counselors. Samaritans is one of the organizations answering those calls. We can listen and support even more people who reach out for help. ABOUT THE POSITION: The Volunteer Mentorship Coordinator (VMC) supports staff and volunteers so they are prepared to answer calls and texts on our 24/7 helpline. The VMC works to fulfill our mission - to prevent suicide and offer hope and support to those affected. This position supports the Helpline Training Manager with scheduling, training, and administrative tasks related to the post-training mentored shifts. This position requires the ability to have a flexible schedule with evening and weekend requirements. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist HTM with all learning shift administrative and scheduling tasks, including pairing mentors and trainees for learning shifts Process Learning Shift paperwork and determine, with support of HTM, when trainees are ready to be onboarded to their Helpline shift Develop and strengthen learning shift process with HTM to ensure learning shift efficacy Train, onboard, and support learning shift mentors Support volunteers as they progress through training by leading roleplay groups Facilitate bi-monthly training regroups Maintains current and accurate records and files through the Volunteer Module of Salesforce Mentor learning shifts as needed Other responsibilities as assigned by HTM REPORTS TO: Helpline Training Manager (HTM) KEY QUALIFICATIONS & CHARACTERISTICS: Minimum of two years coordinating multiple schedules Excellent organizational skills Detail oriented Strong communication skills Knowledge of suicide and suicide prevention field a plus Ability to work independently and collaboratively to maximize teamwork across the organization Ability to work with sensitive and confidential material Must be able to pivot and act to support the organization's needs Creative, resilient and strategic in approach Must be able to evaluate problems accurately and display good, sound judgment SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of the Befriender Training and minimum 2 learning shifts on the helpline after hire If no previous Helpline experience, will be required to shift on the Helpline for a minimum of 40 hours within 3 months of completing training to gain experience and prepare to become a mentor Responsible for staffing Helpline if volunteers are not available to ensure 24/7 service as directed by supervisor On-call rotation: Provides on-call support to volunteers for urgent situations in rotation with 4-6 teammates. Supports interns from local colleges and universities through supervision and evaluations Collaborating with the Crisis Services team to promote the engagement of and maintain community amongst our call/text takers Must be able to flex schedule and work 3 evenings per month and occasional weekends as needed to support Helpline training Collaborating with the Crisis Services team to promote the engagement of and maintain community amongst our call/text takers Support and attend Samaritans key fundraising events as needed STARTING SALARY & BENEFITS: Minimum starting salary is $50,000 and will be set based on experience and skill set Short and Long-Term Disability coverage as well as Life Insurance Health, Dental and Vision insurance Healthcare and Childcare FSA, Commuter Benefits and Employee Assistance Program Generous Vacation (New hires start with 10 days), Sick (8 days) and Personal Time Off (5 days) Paid Family Medical Leave benefits 14 paid holidays Direct deposit payroll Samaritans' employees must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption. Currently our office is re-open on a hybrid schedule with an average of 2 days per week in office, after a period of onboarding for new hires.
