Job Title Shelter Weekend Lead Advocate Position : Full-time, Classification: Non-Exempt Department : Shelter Reports to : Director Shelter and Transitional Living Services Salary Grade/level/Range: Location: 505 Building Mission The mission of The Women's Center is to provide, safety, shelter, and support to empower all impacted by domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse, and trafficking. Summary/ Objective : The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in supervision of weekend shelter advocates, interns and volunteers, including scheduling and coaching. A ssist with coverage for the shelter shifts and the 24-hour Hotline. Assigned work shifts will include weekends, and holidays to ensure adequate coverage of the shelter program . Essential duties and responsibilities : Assist in supervision of shelter advocates, interns and volunteers, including scheduling and coaching. Work with Shelter Manager to maintain a schedule for advocates, interns, and volunteers to ensure coverage for 24-hour Hotline. Provide coverage for hotline/shelter when there are vacancies. Serve as primary contact for Shelter Advocates while on duty. Ensure clients receive trauma-informed services including crisis intervention, safety planning, emotional support, advocacy, and information and referrals through follow up calls and in-person advocacy. Demonstrate client centered, trauma-informed crisis intervention and advocacy to all clients so that other staff learn how to apply these techniques. Make regular rounds to ensure that residents and program areas are safe and secure. Maintain accurate and complete records and statistics in compliance with agency policies. Support advocates in maintaining complete and accurate records Work with clients and colleagues to ensure the smooth and orderly operation of programs. Mediate interpersonal problems between residents. Communicate with other staff to resolve problems with residents. Ensure confidentiality of all clients engaged in services. Adhere to organizational compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory agencies. Ensure compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations. Completes other duties as needed and/or requested by supervisor to align with mission and vision of the organization. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge, Skills: Knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault/abuse, as well as child abuse and neglect. Two to four years' experience working with trauma survivors. Strong processing and crisis intervention skills, including group facilitation Excellent communication and public speaking skills. Ability to talk and write effectively in order to convey information appropriately to needs of the audience. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Sensitivity to issues faced by survivors of interpersonal violence. Ability and willingness to work both individually and as part of a team with other staff in provision of services to clients. Active listening - giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Reading Comprehension - understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Time Management - managing one's own time and the time of others. Service Orientation - actively looking for ways to help people. Coordination - adjusting actions in relation to others' actions. Critical Thinking - using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Judgment and Decision Making - considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. Education/Experience: Associates Degree in Human Services or other social services field. 2 or more years' experience in a shelter environment may be considered in lieu of a degree. Two to four years' experience working with survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence in a trauma informed way. Experience working in a shelter environment a plus. Supervisory experience in non-profit environment preferred. Language Skills: Ability to read, write, communicate, and comprehend English. Bilingual - Spanish/English preferred. Reasoning Ability : Ability to utilize critical thinking- such as using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Other Skills and Abilities: Physical demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Walking throughout the shelter residence and movement between various buildings is required. Work Environment: The Work environment described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be required to perform work-related travel. Works predominantly indoors but may need to go between different buildings. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
