A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ASSISTANT GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT As an Assistant Golf Course Superintendents, you direct the activities of the Golf Course Maintenance staff. You work closely with the Superintendent to supervise and train a large crew of full time, part time, and seasonal staff. You are hands on with the day to day operations of the golf course. With a keen eye for detail, you observe the conditions of the golf course and make suggestions as needed. You should be comfortable speaking in front of large groups and can speak basic workplace Spanish. The Assistant Superintendent is expected to interact with members throughout the day, always carry him or herself in a professional manor, and attend monthly Green Committee meetings. This person should have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, work well in a team environment, and be determined to succeed in the golf industry. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise the staff and assist with job scheduling. Incorporate and enforce safe work practices. Provide safety training for employees as directed. Apply fertilizers and plant protectants including the calibration sprayers/spreaders. R ecord all applications and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. Perform irrigation scheduling and make basic irrigation repairs. Execute and manage golf course improvement projects. Perform basic mowing tasks and cultural practices when needed. QUALIFICATIONS 4 year Turfgrass Management Degree or similar The ability to obtain a Georgia pesticide license within 6 months of hire The ability to speak workplace Spanish preferred, but not required.
