Description:
This position is responsible f or all aspects of heat treating those shop orders where heat treat is required. Perform heat treatment to alter physical and chemical properties of material or product such as hardening, tempering, annealing, case-hardening and normalizing. May act as back up for Heat treat Lead. Essential Functions: Responsible for continuous personal improvement to positively affect department and corporate goals. Perform pre-Inspection of material or product before beginning heat treating process. Set up furnaces, baths and quenching equipment as indicated on shop order or as instructed by supervisor. Determine temperature and time of heating cycle; type and temperature of baths and quenching to attain specified hardness, toughness and ductility of parts. Adjusts controls and observes controls and/or computer to bring furnace to prescribed temperature. Loads parts into appropriate racking and furnace fixtures; places into furnace using established loading techniques. Removes parts from furnace. Quenches parts in water, oil, brine or other bath; or allows parts to cool in air. May test hardness of parts and conductivity of parts. Minor furnace repair as directed by the heat treat LEAD Figure order processing for those jobs assigned to be completed. Return all hand tools, gages and parts, etc. to proper storage areas. Timely and accurate completion of all paperwork associated with the position. Attend training and other exercises determined by the company necessary for maintaining and further developing skill sets. Participate in cross-training activities to enhance personal capabilities and share knowledge with others. Maintain organized and clean work area. Communicate all problems and other work related issues with supervisor. Receive, understand and follow all written and oral instruction. Resolve day-to-day issues by working effectively with others. Actively participate in improvement discussions. Advocate change/continuous improvement (go getter improver) Comply with all company policies and procedures in including safety and attendance requirements. Notify supervisor of unacceptable equipment performance to ensure issue is properly addressed. Help with dispositions on NCR's Other duties required to meet company needs as assigned by Supervisor Minimum Education, Skills & Abilities Ability to learn to read, write and communicate in English. Must understand how to inspect work to order and print requirements. Understand heat treat terminology/instruction on orders and detailed Nadcap heat treat procedures. Understand all shop orders appropriate to the position and understand company quality policy. Time management skills and the ability to work under pressure. Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to follow written and verbal instruction. OSHA required training in and proper use of Lock-out / Tag-out, Hazard Communication, PPE and Emergency Evacuation. In-house training on all assigned machinery and equipment. Minimum Physical Requirements 20/40 vision required with or without correction. Ability to speak and hear 100% of the work day. Ability to use hands 100% of the workday. Ability to stand and or walk 100% of the workday. Ability to bend, stoop or twist 50% of the workday. Ability to exert physical force to push, pull, lift or carry 70 pounds occasionally. Ability to work in shop environment - continuous exposure to potentially hazardous metal working machinery and equipment, loud noises, dust, mist, oils and solvents.
