Infection and Prevention Control Nurse

Description:
The infection Prevention and Control Nurse is responsible for the effective direction , management, and operation of the infection prevention and control department, including education of employees and consultation with the organization, CDC, and the county and state health departments . The responsibilities encompass compliance with CMS, OSHA , and state regulations , outbreak investigation, and the overall direction of the infection prevention and control program. RESPONSIBILITIES Establishes, implements, and admin i sters departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; conducts ongoing review of facility policies, procedures , and guidelines to identify infection control discrepancies and implements revisions as necessary Ensures that departmental goals are compatible with and enhance the organization's mission, values, and strategic plan Provides information to committees and department managers to formulate changes in policies, procedures, and/or processes which could reduce the spread of infection interacts with physicians, nurses , department managers, supervisors, and other staff members to provide resource information, resolve infection control problems, and identify new opportunities to improve service and reduce costs Develops and enforces effectual policies and procedures for the department and facility that ensures comp liance with OSHA , CDC, CMS, and another county , state, and federal regulatory agencies Directs and assists in preparing reports and statistical data for the infection control, quality assurance, and medical advisory committee , the facility's administration team, and other committees as needed Develops and coordinate the infection prevention and control program and implement the program by formulating, establishing, and evaluating policies and procedures relating to resident care infection control measures throughout the facility . Performs an annual assessment and develops action plans from the prior year's activities Makes recommendations regarding construction, renovation, and environmental rounds and assures compliance with national and/or professional standards Develops and maintains an antibiotic stewardship program , developing protocols and systems for monitoring antibiotic use Oversee the organization's immunization program for residents and staff QUALIFICATIONS Current RN license with BSN preferred, OR master ' s in public health (MPH) , OR certified medical te c hnologist , OR a bachelor's degree in microbiology o r epidemio l ogy . Minimum of five y ear s of clinical e x perience in a hospital s ett i ng or di s ea s e su rveillance experience in a public health s etting Association for Practit i oner s in infection Control ( APIC) t ra i nin g course or equivalent desired Certification in infection Control (CIC) Computer s kill s, r e s e arch, and basi c statistics are preferred WORKING CONDITIONS Usually works i n a w ell-light e d , well-ventilated area
