Polar Field Services (PFS), in Mountain View, CA is looking to hire a full-time Telecommunications Engineer to support X , an Alphabet company. X is an Alphabet company exploring innovative solutions to complex global problems. PFS is supporting a Free Space Optical Communications (FSOC) project in X team involved in designing, testing, and deploying a high-speed wireless backhaul technology. The PFS X Telecommunications Engineer will test, install, troubleshoot, and maintain various telecommunication technologies at multiple sites in Mountain View, California. Occasional domestic and international travel may be required up to 15% of the time, in 1-2 week increments. The Engineer will be based at X headquarters in Mountain View, CA working alongside X program team members, and will report to the PFS IT&C Manager in Denver, CO. The ideal candidate must be a good communicator, active problem-solver, comfortable with logistical and technical challenges, and enjoy working in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitudes: 5+ years of IT and Telecommunications work experience Project management and scheduling expertise Extensive experience with international travel and deployment logistics Demonstrated mechanical skills installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting telecommunications and electronic equipment. Experience with point-to-point wireless communication systems and manufacturing. Familiarity navigating facility infrastructure Ability to problem solve and think logically Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain positive working relationships with multiple stakeholders Proven ability to work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team of engineers, including use of multiple online communication platforms Strong attention to verbal and written details Ability to obtain OSHA 30 Hour General Industry certification Ability to climb stairs and ladders Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Able to move items up to 50lbs independently and 50+ lbs. with mechanical assistance. Ability to wear hard hats, steel-toes boots, and other PPE when required Ability to document, follow, and improve standard operating procedures and testing procedures Discretion with sensitive customer information Demonstrable proficiency with computer use and data entry. Comfortable and flexible while facing difficult challenges General Technical Skills Extensive experience installing and maintaining RF (Radio Frequency) communication equipment, switches, and cabling Work with Basic Hand and Power Tools Understanding of electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions Ability to work closely with engineers to develop, test, and qualify equipment procedures Familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office Additional Requirements: Regular and predictable onsite attendance and availability to work extended hours, including after-hours/weekends and on-call. Regular ability to travel internationally for 1-2 week periods, up to 15% of the time. Authorization to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment. Possession of current and valid US passport Preferred Skill Sets: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline CCNA or other networking certifications Comfortable navigating a Linux, Unix, and Windows OS (Operating Systems) Project management experience Experience with CAD tools and demonstrated process development background Understanding of bill of material structures, engineering change orders, and deviation processes Experience working closely with engineers to develop, test, and qualify equipment Current CPR, WFA, or WFR (Wilderness First Responder) certification This IT position earns competitive compensation .
