Position: Upper School History Teacher Founded in 1888, The Baldwin School is a non-sectarian college preparatory, independent day school, PK-12, dedicated to a tradition of excellence in all-girls education. The Baldwin School seeks applicants for the position of a full-time Upper School History Teacher for the upcoming 2023-2024 academic year who is qualified to teach all levels of Upper School History. All Baldwin teachers participate in the life of the School and support the School's mission. The successful candidate will teach four or more classes, and will be able to teach the subject material effectively, engage students positively, and interact productively with colleagues and parents. We seek candidates interested in working collaboratively on innovative curriculum design and development. In addition to the work in the classroom, all Baldwin faculty members are expected to engage in those duties typical of independent day school life (advising students, moderating clubs, chaperoning events, etc.). Successful candidates will have an understanding of and appreciation for girls' education. Responsibilities: Guide students in the process of doing History through research, writing, and conversation Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and a commitment to growth for yourself and your students, by actively pursuing professional development in the teaching of History and other topics relevant to your teaching practice In partnership with the department chair and colleagues, develop appropriate curriculum and lessons to ensure a cohesive learning trajectory from year to year. Create an inclusive and supportive classroom community, establishing routines and building relationships with students; use positive guidance, offering helpful feedback and exhibiting patience, empathy and respect. Differentiate instruction and materials to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of all students. Assess student progress and adjust teaching plans accordingly; provide students with regular and timely feedback about their progress. Create and regularly update a digital classroom page, using our learning management system (LMS), as a primary means of communicating classroom activities to families. Collaborate with colleagues in other content areas to design interdisciplinary and project-based learning experiences. Serve as an advisor, club leader, chaperone, or other co-curricular leader in support of the Upper School Maintain an ongoing dialogue with parents about student progress, through emails, phone calls, report-writing and in-person conferences; maintain strong communication with colleagues, families, and administration. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: M.A. in a relevant subject area; Ph.D preferred 3-5 years of teaching experience at the Upper School level, preferred Experience teaching and/or academic specialization in U.S. History Experience integrating technology, including Google applications, laptop/iPads, SMART Board, etc., into teaching practice to support learning and deepen projects. Enthusiasm for embracing the independent school model of mentoring, advising and supporting students outside the classroom. A commitment to creating an inclusive classroom community that allows for a multitude of perspectives to be heard and respected. Positive attitude towards students, staff and faculty.
