The Medical Technologist (MT, MLT, MLS, CLS) performs STAT and routine processing and testing of blood and other specimens using established procedures and protocols. The position requires the understanding and knowledge of maintaining instruments, testing methodologies, and quality control; as well as organizational and best lab practice skills. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Performs a full range of laboratory tests from simple blood tests to more complex tests in an accurate and timely manner. Interprets test reports and communicates findings to providers by escalating unusual, critical or abnormal results. Operates complex electronic equipment, computers and precision instruments. Maintains accuracy of equipment and reagents by performing established preventive maintenance procedures. Performs and evaluates quality control procedures. Operates, maintains, calibrates and troubleshoots instruments. Assists with the proper storage of hazardous materials. Reviews current literature and attends meetings and seminars to keep informed of new developments in field. Assists in the proficiency testing program in the lab. Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Bachelor or Associate Degree of Medical Technology / Laboratory Science 1-year Clinical Laboratory preferred, new grads accepted MT, MLT, MLS, CLS (ASCP) OR Equivalent certification required Ability to work with and interpret numbers and figures. Ability to manage time, organize daily schedule to meet productivity standards and cope with professional stress. Work requires the knowledge and skills necessary to provide direct patient care appropriate to patient population of specialty: Pediatric (newborn to 15 years) Adult (15 - 65 years) Geriatric (>65 years)
