Optical Systems Engineer

Description:
This role entails design, analysis, integration, and test of optical subassemblies and systems in support of free-space optical communication product development. The ideal candidate will provide their experience in optical communication systems engineering, assembly, and test to evaluate system-level performance metrics. Responsibilities Design optical systems in Zemax (primarily supporting metrology stations) Perform alignment and characterization testing of optical subassemblies and systems Support design, assembly, and test of optical far-field testbeds for interoperability testing between two optical terminals Analyze optical system performance impacts due to environmental effects Support software development team to verify system-level performance metrics Identify and troubleshoot through system and component-level issues Support development of software interface control documentation Specify, commission, and manage optical lab equipment and facilities Minimum Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience with design, analysis, and test of optical systems First-hand experience in building, aligning, and testing optical systems in a lab or production environment Familiarity with standard optical laboratory test equipment such as laser sources, beam profilers, and interferometers Familiarity with communications link, pointing error, and WFE budgets Relevant experience in satellite (or ground) optical communications systems integration and test is desired Proficiency with Zemax OpticStudio or CodeV; ideal candidate would also have experience with SigFit or other similar STOP analysis tool Experience with LabVIEW and Python is desired Highly proficient in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio) Excellent expository writing and oral presentation skills Must be a US Person (This position has export control and security-related requirements that mandate attention to the citizenship status of any potential candidate and necessitates that the individual either be a United States Citizen, Permanent Resident of the United States, or lawfully admitted into the United States as a refugee or granted asylum by the United States Government.)
