Title: Laboratory Director Position Summary: The Laboratory Director will be an Analytical Chemistry Laboratory Professional and will manage all day-to-day functions of our analytical chemistry laboratory that is involved in the analysis of in-process pharmaceutical ingredients/formulations and finished products. These analyses are vital for product processing and final product clearance for human use. The primary techniques involve (a) high performance liquid chromatography (reverse phase) for small organic molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) with addition of peptides possible later in the year and (b) testing for endotoxin and bioburden by established methods. You must be able to analyze substances to determine their quantitative and qualitative chemical composition, and capable of setting up lab equipment and monitoring experiments, compiling data and technical reports (and entering information into programs that monitor product compliance with specifications), and interpreting results. You should have an in-depth knowledge of HPLC. You should also be able to follow instructions and collaborate with others and work in our fast-paced environment with a highly functional group of team members who are involved in all phases of drug manufacture and clearance for release. Reports to: Chief Operating Officer Performance Review Frequency: 90 days and annually thereafter Supervises: All laboratory staff. Contracted service providers involved in laboratory services. Hours: TBD Work Environment: Climate-controlled office environment Physical and Special Requirements: Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time May need to lift, up to 40 pounds Limited exposure to potentially hazardous substances Major Duties and Responsibilities: Receiving, processing, analyzing, and reporting laboratory analyses for all pharmaceutical materials (in process and finished product) and ingredients (active pharmaceutical ingredients). Maintaining and running HPLC (reverse phase), FTIR, and spectrophotometric assay equipment (for LAL endotoxin testing) to analyze all materials and products. Being aware of new techniques and technologies and evaluating their potential for use. Following all cGMP requirements for testing and reporting. Developing reports of results and entering information into document control software for manufacturing. Managing Laboratory, and leading laboratory personnel to a high level of performance. Working on interfunctional team with colleagues from Manufacturing and Quality Assurance. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in chemistry or biochemistry. At least two years of experience in a similar position. Have at least one year of experience with liquid chromatography, essential (and broader experience with gas chromatography and related laboratory systems is a plus). Experience with laboratory quality systems that are cGMP compliant. The candidate should be autonomous, curious and meticulous with excellent team spirit, knowledge of software products such as Word and Excel, and a "get it done" attitude.
