Position Summary: Direct and manage the process and people that are responsible for short term maintenance and long-term reliability improvements of the Kuraray La Porte plant in a safe and efficient manner that complies with company management and engineering standards, specifications, and government regulations. Lead the maintenance and reliability engineers as well as the union maintenance technicians to follow safe work practices while executing a Predictive, Preventive, and Condition Based Maintenance program within the limits of an annual budget and long-term improvement goals. Support the planning and execution of the Mechanical Integrity (MI) element of the PSM program to ensure compliance with OSHA process Safety regulations. Leadership role in increasing plant reliability and uptime as a result of an effective and efficient maintenance program coordinated with reliability improvement projects. Responsibilities : Manage and lead the Maintenance & Reliability Team that includes two maintenance & reliability engineers, two maintenance supervisors and approximately 24 union maintenance technicians. Support the plant Predictive, Preventive, and Condition Based Maintenance program to ensure equipment and assets are available and operable on schedule to meet short term business commitments: Establish maintenance target & objectives and key maintenance performance indicators with input from project engineering and production teams. Set standards for qualified/craft maintenance employees and ensure compliance with maintenance SOP and provide required inspection and quality records. Support the Predictive, Preventive, and Condition Based Maintenance requirements in cooperation with plant production and operational plan including resources (crafts, operators, parts, equipment) and availability to maintain assets /equipment effectively and efficiently in working conditions. Prioritize and escalate as necessary critical repair work. Lead Reliability Improvement program to increase the reliability of selecting critical equipment and assets to meet long term business goals. Oversee root cause failure studies and investigations. Manage and participate in planning and implementation of corrective and preventative actions and reliability improvement projects in cooperation with production and project teams. Establish a budget for the maintenance of equipment and assets on the plant site and periodic site turnarounds. Provide monthly reporting on costs and performance each to the Plant Manager and site leadership team. Ensure compliance with regulatory, company, and departmental Safety, Health and Environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures. Qualifications : BS. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering with a strong maintenance background. Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience in a petrochemical plant Thorough knowledge of the standard plant maintenance processes. Experience in the maintenance of chemical plant equipment (such as distillation columns, motors, all styles of pumps, refrigeration units, cooling towers, compressors, instrumentation systems, and continuous stirred tank reactors) is required. Experienced with Process Hazard Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, Project Management, Turnaround Planning, Project Design, Vibration Monitoring and Assessment. Possess a strong knowledge of government regulations affecting chemical plant operations (includes safety, environmental, and labor regulations). Must have strong knowledge of PSM requirements as they relate to the Maintenance and Engineering functions, especially MOC & PSSR and Mechanical Integrity. Strong management and leadership skills. Excellent contingency planning skills and ability to coordinate several activities with multiple people simultaneously. Very strong interpersonal skills. Ability to analyze plant mechanical and electrical/instrumentation problems and develop practical repair solutions that allow site to meet short term commitments while providing basis for long term improvements. Ability to perform engineering economic feasibility studies. Ability to make quick, calculated decisions based on past experiences and limited information. Very strong oral and written communication skills including communication across language barriers. Ability to understand and explain complex problems and solutions. Preferred Qualifications Six Sigma green belt or black belt preferred but not required. SAP experience preferred but not required.
