Director, Nature Action 100 Secretariat

Who You Are: An individual eager to be a driving force behind a bold new global engagement initiative, which focuses on mobilizing investors to drive greater corporate ambition and action to stem nature loss and biodiversity decline. Nature Action 100 will identify the private sector actions that must be undertaken to protect and restore nature and support investor efforts to catalyze these actions via company engagements. Investors in the initiative will focus on engaging companies in key sectors with the most significant systemic impacts on nature to ensure that they are taking timely and necessary actions to protect and restore forests and other natural ecosystems, safeguard freshwater resources, and improve the management of agricultural lands. These actions are essential in maintaining ecosystems functions which play an important role helping us adapt to and mitigate climate change. The Initiative had its soft launch in December 2022 at the Convention on Biodiversity (COP15) in Montreal, Canada. Our client and the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) have been chosen to co-lead the Secretariat and engagement track of Nature Action 100, with Planet Tracker and Finance for Biodiversity Foundation selected to lead the technical advisory group. What You Will Be Doing: The Director of the Nature Action 100 Secretariat, in collaboration with counterparts at IIGCC, will manage the administrative, organizational, and logistical support for the Secretariat and ensure communications, fundraising, and reporting activities are undertaken by relevant colleagues in line with the approved initiative work-plan. The role is a full-time position and will report to the Vice President, Programs. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Lead Development of the Initiative's Work Plan: Support the design and development of an ambitious initiative work plan to address nature loss from corporate operations. Investor Recruitment: In collaboration with organization's Land Use and Climate Working Group, the Investor and Company Networks, and IIGCC, support efforts to recruit investors to join Nature Action 100 and related working groups in key sectors. Engagement with the Steering Committee: Organize and support a Steering Committee comprised of leading investors and NGO representatives focused on engagements with major companies, develop meeting materials, and facilitate steering group dialogues. Communications and Branding: Work with the company and IIGCC communications teams to ensure all communications activities, including positioning, branding, and management of digital assets, are delivered in line with the initiative's approved workplan. Work with partners to ensure that the Nature Action 100 website and other communications content support programmatic goals. Mobilize Donor Support: Lead coordination efforts with the development team, other relevant fundraising staff at IIGCC, Planet Tracker, and Financing for Biodiversity Foundation, and collaborate with other appropriate external partners on fundraising for initiative. Manage Internal and External Reporting: Develop metrics and KPIs for the initiative, and draft, coordinate, and distribute progress reports to pertinent external parties and donors. Develop and manage Secretariat budget and provide quarterly financial reports to the Steering Group and donors. Ensure that key data on programmatic progress and interactions with relevant partners are tracked in and provide quarterly narrative updates on progress against program goals. Our Ideal Candidate Has: At least 10 years of relevant experience, including time spent managing complex multiparty partnerships and/or international collaborations, and managing remote staff and consultants. Bachelor's degree required. Master or other advanced degree in environment, international development, public policy, finance, natural resource management, or related field preferred. Knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues, including biodiversity, climate change, and water quality issues. Proven ability to reach consensus with diverse constituent groups, engage with donors, and develop innovative partnerships and advocacy campaigns to advance a common objective. Familiarity with the UN system and multilateral/bilateral community a strong plus. Experience developing and managing ambitious KPIs, program metrics, and reporting against these goals. Sound judgment, sensitivity to diverse constituencies, excellent interpersonal skills, strong initiative, and exemplary analytical skills. Effective presentation style and excellent oral and written communication skills. Fluency in oral and written English. Ability to travel domestically and internationally to accomplish duties noted above.
