Position Overview: Performs routine to moderately complex administrative and clerical work in support of departmental operations. Serves as Board Secretary and provides administrative support during board meetings. Reports to the Director of Planning & Community Development. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND EXPECTATIONS: Routinely greets and assists department visitors and answers the phone lines.Issues and processes permits upon approval, updates permit statuses, and verifies contractor licenses.Schedules inspections and maintains records.Receives and reviews various records and reports such as permit applications, inspection forms, and ARB applications.Performs a variety of administrative tasks, including processing timesheets for the department, creating departmental reports, ordering office supplies, and maintaining and updating inventory.Prepares weekly and monthly permit reports for the Council and Mayor.Effectively communicates with various internal and external groups and individuals.Serves as Board Secretary and attends Board (ARB, BZA, PC, Community Appearance, Construction Board of Appeals) meetings outside of normal working hours. Accepts, processes, tracks, records minutes and/or creates all agendas and packets for the Boards.Coordinates and schedules Board training and/or continuing education classes for Board Members.Performs other related duties as directed. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in an Office Manager capacity, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with the ability to learn other software such as NewWorldSystems.net.Valid South Carolina Driver's License.Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills as well as basic mathematical skills. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to lift, reach, bend, exert force, or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds. May require sitting, standing, or walking for an extended period of time.
